The SSN itself doesn't have an expiration date, but since the card says that it's only valid for work with DHS authorization, you won't be able to use it to work if your EAD expires. It can still be used to renew driver's license and for credit, etc.

That's true.

To get an ID or License in Arizona you need your EAD, and the EAD has the words "C33" on it, which means it was given out because of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, so you won't be able to get a driver's license or ID in Arizona.

So, are you saying that even if our EAD expires, we can continue to renew our driver's license? I thought that once EAD expires, we cannot renew our licenses. Otherwise, what's the point of having the DL expire on the same time as the EAD?

Once you already have an ID or Drivers license all you need is the drivers license/ID and SSN to renew.

I'm not sure how this works in other states, but I'm in Massachusetts and had an EAD issued to me in 2004, and it expired in 2006. Right when I got it, I got my SSN and DL.
Since the EAD expired, I've renewed my license, and took out a mortgage... so what people have been saying about the SSN, and DL's is correct.

I just got approved!
However, my excitement isn't as great as everyone else's because since 2004 i've had my SSN and DL (through my dad's I-485, which was originally denied, and I was aged out by the time it was correctly re-submitted) so it didn't affect me as much... but now with an EAD, I will finally be able to put that Bachelor's degree to good use.

Same here. I've had a SSN before but now I can work and put my masters degree to use while I wait for my green card in a few years (aged out son of a us citizen over 21)

So, I have an issue and I would like suggestions.
I work at a doctor's office. My boss pays me under the minimum.
The last time I went up to her and asked her to level my salary to the minimum payment she said that she couldn't because I was working illegally. And I'm so excited for my ead to come so I can rub it in her face. My question is, what would be the most convincing and nicest way to ask for a raise? I have been working for her for four years and I just want what's fair.

Exactly what you said in the last part of your comment. You DESERVE fair pay and soon you will be LEGALLY REQUIRED to get paid minimum wage or more, not below. If she has a problem with it, tell her to stick it and find a new job. :)

Hmmm that's strange. I got my ID for 6 years but it was stamped "Temporary Visitor, Status Expires (and the expiration date of my EAD." It was technically still valid after the status expired because the ID's expiration was different. (I did have problems using it though, some people are just mean!) Anyway, after my ID expired I got a letter form the DMV saying I can come in and renew only if my documents are up to date.

I also think it depends on who services you. Some people don't note the date of your EAD and don't stamp your card. I know someone who this has happened to. (lucky!)

I guess all states are different.

Anyone else have a typographical error (wrong name)?
After I requested for a name update, and received two referral numbers, they told me to call back in 15 days to check the status of it. When I called today (has been over 15 days), they are now telling me that because I received letters from the USCIS regarding the typographical error, they cannot access the information to check the status of the name change. They told me that I have to make an appointment with my local USCIS office or something...

Anyone who got their typographical errors fixed, please tell me how you addressed the issue. :(

P.S. The first letter that came with said basically that they cannot make corrections without proper documentations, and that they would review the issue at processing time. The second letter says that my error has been noted and forwarded to my file for Officer review. And that all corrections and changes are determined at the time of adjudication...

She told you she couldn't raise your salary because you're working illegally? Then why did she employ you if you she knows your illegal?

Who's preventing her from paying you minimum wage?

For those wondering about DL in Califonia, it's only valid while your EAD card is valid. So it expires in two years. But you can renew it again if you renew your EAD at no charge since a license is not typically issued for two years. So if you can't renew the EAD, you can't renew your license anymore. So those saying you can keep renewing just with a ssn are not correct. The DL is exactly the same as any other license. No marks or anything stating status or that its temporary. They don't even look at the social security card which says "Valid for work only with DHS authorization" . You just put the number on the application and they verify it with the SSA.

even with the new bill signed by gov brown? i thought that was going to allow all daca recipients with a dl. meaning if you dont get approved for ead, you can still get a dl.

Even with the bill. It's true that you won't need a EAD but the DMV will use your DACA approval which still is only valid for the same amount of time. So it will still have that expiration date of two years. And BTW, the DMV still has not put that in place. Not sure when it goes in effect but I tried to do it with my approval for DACA first, and they said it wasn't a document they accepted. Not sure when the bill goes in effect but my understanding was that it would go in effect right away.

Wow sorry to hear. There were cases in the recent past, where people who were hired / despite being here illegaly sued their employer, because they were grossly paid underwage. (For years and won all past wages)
Its illegal to pay under minimum wage,, unless its like waitressing etc.
If there are time logs, and somewhat of a paper trail about your time of work there vs payment, you can def demand or sue for past wages. Tempting how you would go about it, im sure there are lawyers just hungry to take on your case.

Hope everything works out for you
And search google

It literally depends in which state you're in, and the type of software they run. As well as employees.
Since you have a social, some dmv's websites only need that and your info, and $ to renew.
Hopefully something beteee comes along next year, and we wont have to worry about 2014

It actually depends on where you live & the load of work that each service center has.

I live in California yet, mine was transferred to Nebraska

Walk-ins refers to going to get your biometrics completed prior to your scheduled appointment. When your application is accepted, you will get a letter in the mail with a scheduled date to get your finger prints at a service center, which is your biometrics. Usually the date given is about a month ahead, but you can go before that, so your case can get processed quicker.

Yeah search the forums on here for more info regarding your city/location once you get your biometrics letter. Usually, they allow walk-ins after 1:30pm-3:30pm mon-fri but again, some locations might be different. So do some searches on here for other DREAMers in your city/location.

Well I sent a very complete package, I couldn't decide what was not important or could make a difference so I just sent everything and didn't get a REF, which is what I wanted. Maybe the adjudicator didn't hate me so much since he had all the info he needed.

Thats good, the important is to get approved. I'm just saying what the USCIS adjudicator said about that easier applications get processed first, that explains why some of us who completed their bios later than others have gotten approved first.

Yes you can but only if they send it with a tracking number, sometimes they send it with priority mail with tracking number and sometimes they just use regular first class mail; in my case it is first class mail without a tracking number. So they do not know where it is right now  The lady at USCIS told me to call back after 15 days and see if there is any update on my card.

I was always patient until the last few weeks. I was becoming nervous as well. I was sure I was going to get an RFE or that USCIS lost my packet. I mean I sent it so early and I did not walk-in, and all these approvals were jumping around my bio date. So, I started worrying. But, I was approved this Wednesday and now my card is on its way here...

Now I can just sit pretty and wait until the mail man drops off my I-766...
Although Nebraska has some weird approval dates I do believe they are trying to go in order so tomorrow or next week will be great for you...(haha told you I was right!)

Anyone here from the Pacific Northwest (Oregon or Washington)? I've searched a couple of forums and haven't found anyone yet. I'm thinking that since there's not as many Hispanics in this part of the US I will get an early appointment for my biometrics in Portland.

Hello,

It seems like you are ahead of me, I just had my biometrics taken on 10-17-12. Hopefully you will get approved soon. :-)

I'm not sure about being approved faster than others since I think the apps are being processed in Nebraska, and based on what I have read, Nebraska seems to be kind of slow. Please let me/us know when you get approved!

Hi Everyone,
Congratulations to those who have received deferred action. I have made a graph of minimum wait times for the Nebraska center from data I have found. With the limited data, it can be seen that the minimum wait time is increasing, with the current AVERAGE MINIMUM wait time of 25 days after your biometrics date. If a somewhat linear trend is kept in the next couple of weeks minimum wait times should increase to 30 days and in a month to a minimum average of 40 days. Please keep posting your scheduling data, the more data the better the estimates will become.

Im in tx and I was routed to Nebraska. Your receipt #s if they start with Lin=Nebraska, W=california, E=vermont, T= Texas. you are lucky if routed to Cal. it seems they work faster.

Ok, so for anyone who has done their biometrics what I.D. did you use? I only have a matricula and my college I.D. but my matricula is expired so I don't know if they will accept it. :?: Has anyone from Dallas used their school I.D.? Any tips or advice is appreciated. Thanks y'all!

Passport
don't worry if is damage

depending on the country that your from just go to your country embassy, consulate they are making the process for deferred action applicants much faster than a normal you will get your passport in one date is you go with an appointment...

Yes you can but only if they send it with a tracking number, sometimes they send it with priority mail with tracking number and sometimes they just use regular first class mail; in my case it is first class mail without a tracking number. So they do not know where it is right now  The lady at USCIS told me to call back after 15 days and see if there is any update on my card.

why track they will arrived in three working days be patient...Congrats

No idea... 5 people to my left are approved (in a row) like 3 are approved in a row to my right (I'm talking about LIN numbers here).

And to my left, after those 5, it's like one skip then approved for like 7-8 people, then skip one, etc...

As for age, I'm 18. I don't know how old you or your cousin may be, but I really think it depends on luck.

haha i though i was the only one who did this.....and your lucky they skip you
i was checking my status the same way and was predicting when they were gonna approved my case everyday the number of people approved got closer and closer until they got to mind but unfortunate for me my cases got suspended until they receive more evidence I'm still waiting on the letter.....

good luck and if your case is in between people who's cases are approved they are probably looking a little closer into your cases if everything appears to be find I'm sure your cases will be approved within a week

Before the average Nebraska wait time after biometrics was 15-20 days. It is safe to say, that number is now 25-35 days for the second batch of approvals. This will increase for the third batch and so on. For those holding off on sending their applications, big mistake.

most places seem to take expired passports and matriculas? i dont know what a matricula is but i am sure that should be good. i took my expired passport and i was 1 year old in the picture! the guy asked if it was me lol and of course i said yes and that was it. i also handed him my expired driver's license which had a much recent picture of me but i dont think he even looked at it!

Congrats!! Service center?

Thanks! My case was sent to Nebraska.

Also:
Total time from mailing package to approval day = 53 days.
(Since day application arrived = 50 days)
Time from biometrics to approval day = 17 days.

Someone just said that process times are increasing the longer you wait. Since my biometrics were done in October I was expecting to wait 28 days, but maybe since I sent my app in August that's why I my time was a little shorter (but longer than some others since I didn't do a walk-in, *ahem*).

It seems there's no real pattern. I have friends who sent theirs in the first week and still haven't been approved (as of yesterday). They submitted a week earlier than me, did their bios a week earlier than me, and nothing as of today. They are in the process of getting their bachelors but other than that their cases are the same as me (went to school together).

Bio appointment: 9-27 (DONE)

I sent out my application on the second day and seems like every steps are slower than everybody :(
I hope I don't have to wait extra 2,3 months.

I am wondering if I am the 6 thousands of applicants that are under review?
Because from the 10-15 USCIS data, there are 150,000 applications scheduled for Bio, 4xxx got approved and 6xxx is under review, if I(and everyone in this forum) am those 6xxx, I believe it will be approved SOON!!

Do you guys think uscis is purposefully holding on to some cases without approving them just to make the "average" wait time for daca approval longer? I starting to think that is the case, you know to especially to quiet people like senators smith & grassly? I mean think about it why are the approvals so random? And why are there people like me who filed the very first day still waiting while others who filed way late are approved? Think they randomly choose to approve some and to delay some for the purpose of achieving an average approval time to appease certain folks.

False. Those with delayed approvals, read this http://dreamact.info/forum/showthread.php?t=33133

It has to do with your name.

I agree with you, while your name might be a factor, I believe that it shouldn't delay the case that much. I think what bogged down the process was people doing all this walk-ins and basically putting the process through a crawl, specially in vermont, imo.

it seems like people who applied right away their wait time was like 4 days after the biometrics, now its like a month. I hate waiting for this, its like...waiting for someone to come out of surgery lol and if they need more evidence would they send that to you before the biometrics, or after?

So this means I can walkin to biometrics right now ? If yes so I can go right now lol

Yes, go whenever you like (just not after your scheduled appointment). If you rather wait like a sucka, then is on you.

I just can't believe they allow walk in. This mess up the other application I think.
Why can't people do it in order, why always try to go around thing.
I mean getting here illegally is already bad, now even trying to skip the line and get thing done inappropriately. No offense to anyone, I am applying and done my bio early last month.

False! It does not mess up the application process because USCIS doesnt even begin to start on a case until bios are received.

That is like bitching about others getting their passports first and submitting their applications before they do....is nonsense.

And if you dont believe me, then read what a USCIS adjudicator has to say about it

So according to your reasoning, what is the purpose of USCIS assigning a specific DATE for bio? Why not just allow everyone to go to do bio right after their applications were accepted? There are almost 200,000 applications now I could imagine, those who were waiting patiently to do their bio might got their applications delayed because of those who just walk in.

There is a REASON for USCIS to assign everyone a different date of bio so the traffic could be relieved, why breaking every single rule and try to find a loophole?

I just got an RFE :( . Does anyone know if they will move my case to the bottom of the pile or will they expedite it once I send my evidence?

What I've seen on other users that got RFE'S Once they send the evidence they get an answer in 1-2 weeks.

I would think so. A relative of mine was approved last Wednesday and got their EAD that Saturday.

USCIS are not the only ones that schedule bios...many security firms, corporate firm, independent organizations, also schedule bios for new employees/members. The problem with USCIS, they correlate appointments based on 1 hour timeframes for appointments. Since fingerprints take about 5 minutes, the automatic system only looks at how many slots are taken on that day, and appoints immigration appointments to fit the empty slots on one hour increments.

That is why the centers are almost always empty because appointments do not take the automated estimation of one hour. Hence, they allow walk-ins.

The million dollar question is why hasn't USCIS updated their system to fit in slots for less than one hour, so more can be scheduled properly.

And on the contrary, Consulate offices overbook appointments per day, hence the long waits. They need to fit fewer slots per day so the long waits do not occur.
