What brings me down a bit is I don't own a car but I guess that if I am hired at a bank or let's say an office then I will find myself using public transportation until I can purchase my own car. I was thinking of working someowhere really close to home like retail for a couple of months until I can purchase a car but idk if that's such a good idea. I have some volunteer experience and hope to be able to find a good place to work.

Where do you plan on volunteering? I'm thinking VTA by next year.

Yes I have! I'm also planning to do it as well next tax season. In fact where I volunteered they asked me to be part of their Volunteer Leadership Team! :D

Btw: trainings should start pretty soon!

I wanna do VITA, too! The people at my school are intense, though. They come to campus at like 2 AM just so they can get the VITA centers that they want.

Well go right ahead! It's super fun and you can actually see the results of your volunteering right in front of you! People were really thankful and sweet to me. :)

Haha dang really?! Well then try and be the first there and sometimes (depends where you live) several organizations are a part of VITA. Good luck! :)

Btw if you're bilingual it'll be a +. ;)

Good for you!

Yea, I got an e-mail from them this morning. I really wanted to start in January but like you said, it seems like trainings are about to start soon. I'll see what I can do.

Thanks!

Study everything really well it'll pay off because once you're out there volunteering people will see you know you're stuff and you'll get great references! ;)

Well you could start volunteering in January and I assure you there will be plenty of help needed! lol

How necessary do you think training is? is there a way to prepare myself by reading books?

Thanks for the input.

It's extremely helpful especially if it's your first time. They will explain to you how the software works/where to input the info.

They will also be able to answer any questions you have and sometimes the organization you'll be volunteering with makes it mandatory to attend trainings. I'll PM you a link that was useful to me.
