Re: NY Driver License Renewal

SO, the website says if you are a temporary visitor you CANNOT renew it online.

HOWEVER, what i want to know is, for you guys with a mydmv account, when you sign in does it show Temporary Visitor as one of the restrictions? If not, you might be able to renew without the temporary visitor showing up. Just a theory, not yet tested.

Re: NY Driver License Renewal

For anyone still not sure...here are some tips...

Updating temp visitor field on driver license is called a "Change", not a "Renewal" (At the NY DMV at least).

When you fill out the main form, you will check off "Change", as the DMV won't allow you to "Renew" your driver license if the driver license expiration is still good, and this is the same reason they won't allow you to "Renew" it online, as the temporary visitor expiration gives you a red flag if you try to do it like that because it is an additional limitation that is on our driver licenses.

My driver license has an expiration all the way until 2017, so I had to choose "Change" because I was only changing the temp visitor expiration field...and that field is important as my driver license comes up as invalid because of the expired temporary visitor field (When I checked it on the NY DMV website).

So I went to "Change" it at the DMV, paid like $15 or so, and got my new one in the mail.

A driver license renewal I think costs like $100 or $200 or something, big difference...lol...

Hope this clears up everything for you guys and gals.
