Re: Studying for AP

H3wlett and fldude13 gave great advice. I second the comment on taking as many APs as possible, I took 8 exams and somehow made it pass high school. I had a 4 on the English one. Take the practice tests or look at older tests if the teacher is crappy. That helped me out a lot as well.
I didn't have to pay for my exams but I'm dirt poor. I got vouchers to cover my tests, which is why I took the exams in the first place. I wouldn't have taken them if I had to pay for them.

I had the same problem when I took that course. I just bought a review book from a friend and studied it. Then I learned how to write better by reading books on writing. Passed the test with flying colors.

Re: Studying for AP

Take as many as you can. I got a year of college done by simply taking every AP class my high school offered. The English Lit one if I remember was a joke at my high school. The class did not prepare us for it at all. If you do well on the verbal and writing on the SATs you should be fine (even if you don't it's still very possible you could come out with a 3). So even if you didn't take the AP lit/comp class at your high school but did very well in those sections on the SATs and it's your senior year, take the AP test! I feel so old thinking about how long ago that was.

I assumed (wrongfully) that most high schools offered them for free.

You are right, many students do have to pay for them.

At my high school, they were free, you just had to be admitted into the course based on past grades, etc., and then sign a form when May came around saying that you will take the test, and if you don't show up, you will be charged (i think $13.00) for the school having to have ordered the exam or some b.s. like that.

Nevertheless, AP is a great thing, and if you have the opportunity to take them, do so!

Even if your future college doesn't accept your scores (like many Ivy Leagues) they still prepare you for college level course work.

My AP literature class was free in my school, but you had to pay $80 for the test, which if you can get credits for college still beat the $750 it would have cost to take a four credit class at my college

Yeah, they charge a lot. I was supposed to take 7 AP tests my senior year, but since they cost $80 a piece, I didn't get to take them. fdhfsajokfdor

Anyway...when is your test? Not until at least next month, right? I think I have one of my practice AP English tests laying around somewhere, so if you like I can dig it up and give you some tips from it (I got a 5).

Congrats Ping Pong and everyone! I'm in high school right now and am also preparing for four AP exams. As I have heard most of you say about AP English lit...it's a fat joke. Easiest class ever. By the end of this year I will have taken 7 and I can say it's a lot of work in some classes, but it depends on us to make sure we're prepared. I usually look at the princeton review or others; those help. Good luck though!

I am also very nervous about taking the AP tests. I'm taking AP Stats, US Gov't and English Literature. AP Stats and AP English are killer courses at my school. Speaking of which, I still need to finish reading a book for AP English... bah.

Thanks guys, this is good advice. Umm. I'm kind of nervous, but I'll try to relax. We have been reading a lot of classics. We write papers on them, and that's all we do. I took the initiative and have been reading plenty of poetry. I'm not freaking out about essays; I think I can handle that, but the multiple choice is not my best area.

That would be nice, the AP lit exam is May 8th.

English Language

U.S. History
micro
Governement
Environmental
Human Geo.

Pales in comparison to my school's val, and sal who each took like....a billion (online cheaters :x).

KK. Done bragging.

I wrongfully (according to me) got a 4 on both AP english exams, despite having pretty crappy teachers.

For literature, just familiarize yourself with the classic novels that you guys read in class.

Know them well. Understand them. Learn to compare and contrast them.

FREE Response:
When attempting to answer the prompt, make sure to understand it completely first. When evaluating a piece of literature, be sure to discuss specific rhetorical devices etc. etc.

Don't ramble or b.s. That just wastes your time, and you won't get any points.

You're probably going to have to compare and contrast some b.s. poems.
Simply, do just that. Compare...and Contrast.

There will likely be one essay where you have to draw upon a piece of literature to answer the question. THIS IS THE ONE YOU MUST NAIL!!!!
IT IS BY FAR THE EASIEST.

As for the multiple choice section...

If my memory serves, it was REALLY easy. Merely reading passages, and the comprehending them.

Not much more I can add.

Overall...just relax. It's just a test. Nothing will happen if you fail - - well, you won't get a piece of paper award stating that you passed all your exams in about 3 months. lol. big whoop.

Thanks, good advice and wow! 12 exams lowest score a 3? I took one my sophomore year only and got a 4 (world history) I wanted to take more AP this year, but my school doesn't offer all the AP classes, only about 10, plus there were scheduling conflicts, so I'm only taking 2.
