Re: GOP's Dream Act: ACHIEVE Act

Would a reform really follow DA?
I think if the Dream Act passes, then that'll be it for immigration, onto the next problem.
Maybe we should be content with DACA and push for a reform, instead of DACA>DA>CIR

No it won't be it for immigration because the DA only solves a small percentage of the problem. Correct me if I'm wrong but CIR will not only legalize those who don't qualify for the DA but also enforce/improve immigration laws which is extremely important for this country.

Personally, I would not mind being on one sort of visa or another for 10 years too much. I don't want any welfare but I have no idea how I can possibly get an education without federal student loans.

Sure, don't give me any grants but, hell, at least a government loan so that I can repay once I get my degree. At present, even working more than 60 hours a week I can barely make enough to cover the bills.

A loan is not a handout is it?

I agree. I would rather just renew my work permit every two years than apply for ACHIEVE.

It's dumb.

That's what I'm saying, they would stop with the Dream Act to attract the Hispanic vote.

Immigration reform won't come until they fix the problem with the undocumented youth, after that then we can talk about an immigration reform for our parents and the older folks that are undocumented.

You can file an I-130 at any time if your petitioner qualifies for being able to file

In fact, right now I have TWO approved immigration petitions! One from my USC mom and one from my USC sister. If I was back in my home country, I could hop on a plane right now, enter the country, and get an LPR card!

Unfortunately I have my illegal status/10 year ban hanging over me.

Feh.

Unless you fall under the 245i grandfathered rule. This means if CIR passes and you get whatever CIR is offering then that would mean the ban no longer applies right? You would then get the GC.

What I mean was that lets's say you were 20 when your mother was a GC holder. It was be obsolete for her to petition you because in 1 year you would age out anyway.

WRONG.
Dream Act only have chances as part of CIR.
Obama,Graham, Schumer, Luis Gutierrez, ect......Are pushing for CIR not for Dream Act.
