Earlier this year there was an amendment to the transportation code that stated that all ID's and DL's must look the same.

In that chapter it talks about and I quote:

1."(a)Each original driver's license, [and] provisional license, instruction permit, or occupational driver's license issued to an applicant who is a citizen, national, or legal permanent resident of the United States or a refugee or asylee lawfully admitted into the United States expires as follows"

and

2. "(a-2) Each original driver's license issued to an applicant who is not a citizen, national, or legal permanent resident of the United States or a refugee or asylee lawfully admitted into the United States expires on:"

So if it talks about asylee's, permanent residents, etc. then that info is included in that chapter and so may be included on the DL... Unless I'm missing something.

True, I did not catch that.
After doing some additional research, it turn out ours will probably say "Limited Term" at the top.

I did find it interesting that it might be up to each DPS office whether or not to add it.

Quote:

MALDEF says it has been prompted to submit an open-records request to the department after hearing complaints that the DPS is issuing the licenses with the “limited term” designation in red lettering.

“It’s our understanding that the law, as it was written, did not allow them to change the appearance of the licenses," Hinojosa said. "But there might be some wording that could be ambiguous."

Hinojosa is also questioning whether some DPS offices are interpreting the rules differently, or whether there are some “rogue” officials in the department that are continuing the practice despite the language in the bill.

It is interesting to note that since I had a DL from before, they didn't really look at my evidence much except for my residence proving papers(my address).

My driver's license and ID do not say anything at all with reference to status. They both look like normal DL/ID's.

My wife prob won't get hers for a few weeks, so if any of you receive a different DL/ID with some sort of identifier on it please post it here. Thanks.

Edited to add:

Just found this: http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/DriverL...StatusDLID.htm

the 5th paragraph that beings "DPS will issue driver's licenses..." says the following: "Upon verification of temporary lawful presence in the U.S., an individual will receive a license with a Limited Term designation that will expire when the period of lawful presence expires."

So does it depend on which DMV you go to? I googled limited term drivers license and it says that theres some sort of law that says all ids and dl have to look the same, but theres some dmvs that put that limited term thing?
