@maskedluchador @xangal: Have you two had the chance to hold a full-time job that deals with hundreds of people on a daily basis?

Not one employee I encountered at the consulate was mean or unprofessional to me, but even I, as a person seeking services from them, could see that they encounter people who are lazy, disorganized and unprepared.

Fortunately I haven't, and if I end up getting my work permit I won't seek a job in that field. Take a wild guess as to why I won't. If you don't like your job quit and move on to another field. There are worse things in life than answering questions to applications that pertain to your profession.

I knew you were going to say that! I live in Houston too.

I hate the consulate here. I really dislike how unorganized they are and the super long waits. They never really give you good directions on what to do, or what line to stand in, and nobody ever seems friendly. Then again, who can blame them? Working there would have to mean that you have to deal with hundreds of confused people everyday.

I had to renew my consular ID card in early June (which was horribly laminated. I can't believe that they're almost 30 bucks: many times I've been asked if it's fake!)

Almost every question can be answered in the Instructions for I-821D.

That's why you had to prepare your documents ahead of time, not the day of. I got mine at the Raleigh, NC consulate on 7/23 a week and a half after making an appointment. They told us that DA eligible people were a priority. However, the undocumented population is higher in TX then it is in NC. They only thing you can do right now is wait, and FINISH your packet...your passport is not needed to complete your forms. Go ahead and finish your forms so that when you get your passport, you'll be able to sent it immediately

So true! All my experiences at the Mexican Consulate here in L.A. have been absolutely horrible. The people there have major superiority complex issues going on. It's ridiculous.

Why are you guys fretting over a passport?

I believe in the instructions it says you can use your college ID to prove identity.
