Re: Democrats blocked from including immigration reform in spending bill
Honestly, my head expected the depressing news, but my heart was still hopeful.
I should stop commenting here. There is someone who says he will work to elect GOP candidates... I don't know what kind of mental gymnastics this guy had to go through to work against his own interest and other DACA recipients' interests. And... the rest of us..... we all blame Democrats, Republicans, this person, or that person.. After spending over half of my life worrying about my status and future, I am quite tired of everything. Sadly, I am not someone who is strong or brave enough to do things and find my own path to legalization... kind of tired of living like this. I guess it is foolish of me to expect these politicians and those in government to help me with my future. It is frustrating that I am not strong enough to take matters into my own hands and take care of issues myself. I really wish I could just run away from everything. Anyway, good luck to you all. |
Re: Democrats blocked from including immigration reform in spending bill
Having an ex-immigration prosecutor decide whether to agree to include legalization in this bill or not is a conflict of interest.
Ultimately, a path to citizenship is an investment in our country, in economic activity, tax revenue, and safety. I hope the Democratic leadership acts on this quickly. |

And I still have DACA and follow DACA and Dreamer news. I can be here if I want to. And I never said anyone was too stupid to marry anyone. Just encouraged those that can to seek a realistic plan B instead of relying on politicians to change their lives. |
Re: Democrats blocked from including immigration reform in spending bill
Someone else also brought up a good point that the 2017 tax cuts were passed via Reconciliation. But the tax cuts were not bipartisan (NO democrat or independent voted for the tax cut). How was that able to pass? She's literally making up new Senate rules out of thin air with no precedent and it's ambiguous. Then adding those rules to the Byrd rule, which gives her and any Parliamentarian in the future more power out of thin air.
It is incredibly dangerous because other Parliamentarians in the future can make random rules too just because they want to and gridlock the Senate even more. In fact, if the requirement is "bipartisan"ship for Reconciliation, then no Reconciliation bills will ever pass again in the future (and the 2017 tax cut wouldn't have passed). If there was bipartisanship you don't need Reconciliation in the first place you'd just pass the bill normally. I was not expecting someone who's supposed to be non-political to make such a political move and just not a political move, a move that gave Parliamentarian way more power. |
