The ultimate outcome will be unskilled labor that were moved up to $15 will be replaced by robotics and they will be on welfare anyways. Also Walmart and Amazon squeeze small businesses out because they achieve economies of scale. These two businesses are infamous for selling at a lost until their competitors close down.

Robotics and automation will replace many in the labor force, and will also create new opportunities. A thriving economy can not coexist without a consumer demand.

The present issue is that lower tear wages have been stagnant for decades due to several policies, a raise in minimum wage is a necessity, specially now that the economy is about to get hit with inflation to the lower end consumer goods that have stayed out of price raises thanks to globalization and corporate welfare. I personally would benefit from lower wages, but I don't think it would be good for the economy and political outlook of the US.

The goal is before April 1, so that house bills already passed don't have to go through committee.

What's so special about April 1? It isn't even 100 days?

Bills passed by the house in the previous congress do not have to go through committee. It's a house rule I think .

The 2019 Dream Act would be a great bill, plenty of good press behind it. The Democrats need to get it done, let's hope they don't bent the knee to the Republicans again.
