Typically you can send in for a renewal between 120-150 days before expiration.

If you're set to expire well after that and are nervous that there will be restrictions on the program or that the program itself will be ended, then you can send in for a renewal now. Be aware that might be a complete waste of your money.

Perhaps you can contact USCIS to see if they have exceptions on eralier than 150 day renewals?

For anyone that is almost expiring or has expired the renewal process right now is super fast! Here's my timeline.

Expired:5/04/18
renewal sent with USPS: 5/29 (was waiting for fee assistance check to be mailed)
Received: 5/30
I-797 Receipt: 6/5 with bio date for 6/21
Biometrics: 6/21 completed
Card is being produced 6/22

Super excited 2 more years under my belt!

Next step for me is just AOS with my fiancée. I'm just gonna do it cause waiting for congress is giving me a headache. We were going to wait to see if something will pass but look at what's happening. I'm from Dominican Republic also so maybe the wait time for AoS with I601a won't take forever. Crossing fingers.
