Re: Obama to Push Immigration Bill as One Priority
Although a fragile juncture in time and a difficult balancing act face Obama, i see this as being overall a good sign that times are at least prepping for change.
And the McCaskills post? also a good sign. |

Re: Obama to Push Immigration Bill as One Priority
^what the hell do you want from him? He's gonna sign the damn thing.
It's upto us to help gain more votes in the Senate to push this thing through. Jesus Christ everywhere I look the blame gets pinned on Obama; Republicans saying he's a socialist liberal, democrats saying he's not doing as a good job, illegals saying he's not supporting us like he should... I for one am fortunate that he has ties with Senator Durbin and trust him to see this through, when he's able to, between being the President of a country that's in a shitty financial mess / war. |

Gotta postpone my suicide to fall. :)
I don't think I could take it one more winter though. No pass, no reason to be alive. |
Re: Obama to Push Immigration Bill as One Priority
I just read this article right now. Friends, I am confident that Obama will begin addressing immigration reform this year. I'm just eagerly waiting till this summer..thats when the debate will be heated on this issue. It is up to us to continue our efforts of calling and spreading the word. Other than that, it is in the bag for us...we deserve it and we finally have a President who understands us and is willing to walk the walk. Keep it up guys! ;)

Haha. I thought this was a really positive article.

Re: Obama to Push Immigration Bill as One Priority
Strong leadership by the prez is going to be essential.

Re: Obama to Push Immigration Bill as One Priority
Good! I hope the May Day marches set to take place this year will send them a loud message.
Maybe he expects the marches to break record numbers of '06, and '07 and so he plans to start talking about immigration reform and DREAM soon after. |

Re: Obama to Push Immigration Bill as One Priority
To be fair, 90% of Democrats and 60% of Independents approve of President Obama. It's the Republicans, with 27% support, who are "dragging" his approval rating to "just" an aggregate total of 62%.
Gallup: Obama Approval Rating President Obama will bring his popularity and White House team to help with immigration reform but immigration activists also need to build support for immigration reform in tandem. The conservatives and restrictionists have been screaming bloody murder and dire electoral consequences for Obama and the Democrats if they push immigration reform, but looking at the past two elections, their threats are turning out to be meaningless and politically impotent. The American people want a solution to the border problem, and comprehensive immigration reform will increase border security while also providing a tough but humane way to deal with the undocumented population here in the United States. |
Re: Obama to Push Immigration Bill as One Priority
I agree those marches in May might not have been as helpful as one would imagine. I think the focus on a march this time around should focus on how great America is and broadcast the fact that with the new leadership America is returning to its rightful place as the beacon of the world and should hence pass CIR.
Positive persuasion should be the theme not threat filled demonstrations. Examples should be smiling marchers, people praying, people singing "God Bless America", american flags and an ethnically diverse crowd. That would be a successful May Day. |
Re: Obama to Push Immigration Bill as One Priority
i agree, not a bunch of different flags waived around and words written in Spanish... people wearing Mexican bandannas; people DEMANDING things from the U.S government...
we have to be mature and showcase our point... if we walk around with "give me citizenship NOW!!" post boards, then i wont be surprised if they come and kick us all back. and tell people to act with respect. please feedback |
Re: Obama to Push Immigration Bill as One Priority
it will be nice if all those marchers rather try to contact senators askin supports for Dream Act. I am not feeling for this Immigration Marching.

With regards to the article, this has injected me with quite a bit of hope, but I can imagine the fight ahead of us. No matter. We have a president who I think supports this for more than business reasons and will actually sign a stand-alone bill like DREAM if CIR falls apart. |
Re: Obama to Push Immigration Bill as One Priority
Please vote and comment on this poll:
Should Pres. Obama begin to push for major changes to the immigration system this year? We are losing at the moment, so tell friends and family to vote as well. |
Re: Obama to Push Immigration Bill as One Priority
Please don't tell me they're about to march waving the foreign flags again.
|
Re: Obama to Push Immigration Bill as One Priority
Remember that the other side also has this article, ironically I first got it from my ultra-conservative friend who posted it up on FaceBook. He's against any immigration reform at all ("just deport them all"). I think it'll hit the media soon and be sensationalized on both sides.

Re: Obama to Push Immigration Bill as One Priority
I would like to start a thread calming informing the board that winning in politics is 1/4 policy and calling legislators, 1/2 media management and 1/4 timing. Where do I go to start a thread, so far I have just be responding to threads? If I am missing something, don't fault me for being technologically challenged.
Policy and calling legislators Grade- A- From reading this site, I think the exists a systematic approach to contacting legislators and the level of participation and passion is high. There is always room for improvement but I think all the calls and emails show that Dreamers are doing well on this front Media Management- B- I believe there is no coherent or strategic focus on how to make sure that the right wing spin does not choke out the immigration issue. I watched all the cable shows and the question they keep asking is " Is Obama taking on too much with his CIR objective?" This is just a tactical ploy to get him to pass on tackling this issue when he has high approval ratings and can get most of what he wants done. By next year, his ratings would have slipped and this issue would be harder to pass. Our response should be- "Obama should not pass the buck on tackling this issue because he promised to be a transformative president that will tackle problems courageously and not pass it on to someone else." We should form a media group or I believe the call it rapid response team to counter all the current spin. Timing- We are all hearing that it is a bad political moment for the Dream Act of CIR because of the state of the economy which has some merit but this is also an unparralled opportunity given the fact that the we have an Executive that favors CIR and DA. Majorities in House of Reps and Senate. Politically, republicans especially Chairman Michael Steele should be taken to task and reminded that all the 8 red states that turned blue in the Pres. Election in 2008 were primarily because of hispanics and 2010 would not be different if republicans continue to stand in the way. Michael Steele should be asked if he is a man of his word when he says he wants a "big tent" inclusive republican party or whether he wants to remain well known as a Rush Limbaugh lackey. His stance and the republican party's attitude towards CIR,DA in 2009 will not be forgotten in 2010. There should also be a carrot. The should be suggestion that Republicans that vote for the DA/CIR will not be forgotten in 2010 if the party's rhetoric changes this year. It is a watershed moment for the republican party. We will know if they want to remain a party of the past or of the future. In conclusion, politically this is not a terrible time to seek CIR |
