what's your emotional/mental status?

i noticed that we are all at different stages as far as coming to terms with our illegality is concerned. 'd like to know what helped you accept your situation while you try to change it. or what is keeping you from accepting it and moving on from helplessness?

I went through a long period of self-hatred because of it but I accepted it. I'm ready for whatever life sends my way but most of all, I'm ready for the DREAM act.

I used to go through life without much concern about my immigration status. I figured sooner or later the geniuses in Washington DC would see what a precious resource we are and would address the situation we found ourselves in.

Nowadays however, I am ANGRY (not depressed) at the fact that our lives were deemed not important enough by the senate to debate, but steroid use in baseball was so important that it needed to be debated. The MF-ers in congress have their priorities jacked up.

I believe its kind of like the stages of grief by Kubler-Ross...you go through periods of denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and later acceptance. I keep switching between all of those though and really haven't been able to stay in the acceptance part.

I agree. Up until my senior year in high school, it wasn't a big deal. Then my senior year and even a year later, I was depressed. I hated life, didn't want to get up in the morning, and went through some self hatred.
Some how now, I've come to accept it more. But yeah, it's very difficult to stay there. I have days of depression and anger mostly.
But I'm just glad that at least I can come to accept it, even if it's only some of the time.

When I graduated high school, I was angry because I couldn't go to the University I wanted. When I graduated college I was depressed because it seemed as if all that work was for nothing. Now I believe that getting a college education was one of the best thing I have done. It opened up my eyes to a world I did not know coming from a crowded inner city. I have accepted in a way the fact that life is not perfect and we have to deal with. Now I am hopeful that the dream act can help me and those like me.

i feel like i went through the five stages of grief. Now that i accepted it and became involved in organizing for Dream Act, I am actually a lot happier. It still sucks though

I will just say my self-esteem is on the ground, everything is OK when I'm at school and at work, but as soon as I get home I over think my situation and the great things I could do if I only had an SSN.
What gets me angry the most, is the fact that many of my friends are just wasting their lives by smoking pot everyday and working low wage jobs (I even make a bit more money than some of they do) and not even caring to continue their education, while I struggle in school because of work and knowing that I could do so much better if I had some extra free time.

There's no point in fretting something that I can't personally change. I would love to go to Washington, lobby for Dream, and be useful but I just can't do it with the life getting in the way. Worrying about it would only give me more stress. Just sit back and relax while doing all that you can.

Some days are good, while others are bad. Right now I'm out of school because I couldn't pay the tuition myself and had to depend on my father to pay it. So, as to be expected, I'm having more bad days then ever.

If I keep myself busy by studying for the LSAT, then I'm okay.

That's the story of my life. My Mom's friends have children that are just pissing their futures away. I'm talking babies at 13, DUIs, and check fraud.

I want to go to school and do things for myself, but can't.

what helped me the most was to realize I have lots of things many people in the world envy me for...

1. my family is with me

2. i have my health

3. i live in the United States (lots of people die trying just to get here and work picking up oranges)

4. i have two hands and a brain to make a living

I could go on and on, but i think you get the point.

Second choice for me, although at times I feel like the 3rd choice. I wanna be able to drive from my home to work without any fears of a cop pulling me over, it's a constant fear after getting my car impounded for a month :(.

I also wanna have the sense of security when it comes to my future. I don't wanna be stuck, like so many Dreamies here, with a degree and not being able to apply for a job in their field.

Absolutely agree. I came to realization lately that I need to value those things more. I now spend more time with my family instead of just being locked in my room. As well as my health, I used to weigh almost 300lbs and got down to 210 in a couple of years.
