Senate Dems push healthcare to September

Quote:

Senate Democratic leaders on Thursday made it official that health reform will have to wait until the fall to be considered by Congress’s upper chamber.
Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), Majority Whip Dick Durbin (Ill.), Democratic Conference Vice Chairman Charles Schumer (N.Y.) and Conference Secretary Patty Murray (Wash.) told reporters they decided Wednesday night to put off a Senate vote until after the chamber reconvenes after Labor Day.

I just hope they tackle immigration right after.

Senate Democrats are such a spineless species. So frustrating.

There's time. Sen. Conrad said a week and a half ago the Senate will be in session until Christmas Eve this year.

Well at least they don't have to debate energy in the house! I hope its debated fast. Maybe they'll vote in the health bill in two weeks max, which will be at the same time in the house. I think immigration reform will be next considering the bill will be introduced by labor day!

Can the senate introduce a bill during recess? I am confused! How can a bill be introduced if they come back to from vacay after Labor Day? Someone is lying. Maybe that article I read yesterday stating that experts are saying CIR won't happen until 2012 is true! I want to be legal before the world ends.

"Amidst hysteria among some groups that 2012 will be a year of chaos, and even Armageddon, there is a glimmer of hope that 2012 may not be all that bad (at least for those in favor of Comprehensive Immigration Reform or “CIR”). On a webinar hosted today by the CUNY Citizenship & Immigration Project called, “A Path to Citizenship for Undocumented Immigrants: Update and Advice,” Jeanne Butterfield and Allan Wernick gave their expert perspectives on a potentially forthcoming Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill. While they were sure to point out that right now is too early to know much of anything (pointing out that “it may never happen”), they predicted that if a bill passes, it will likely be sometime between 2010 and 2012. Specifically, Ms. Butterfield stated that the lion’s share of the action would take place during the early part of 2011."

I was asking if it is possible.

Does anyone know if the energy bill is controversial?

As of health care, its a must pass for president obama. He needs a victory in this to win the second term. From what i have been reading, the bill is not close. Both sides need to give up something to reach for an agreement.

Unfortunately, once again =/ Energy bill will be coupled with Climate change. With imposition of carbon tax on major industries you can bet your horses this is going to be another tough fight with republicans supporting none of it and with democrats in industrial provinces backing out of it (blue collar dogs).

The current energy bill is such pansy piece of legislation that if the republicans rail against it I think would be just too much. So on scale of time consumption I think it should be somewhere in the mid-bottom.

Re: Senate Dems push healthcare to September

I think the immigration reform debate will "start" this year, but mainly take place early next year. Everything has basically faded away as the health care debate has heated up.

My predication is one of the houses may pass a bill this year, but it depends on the economy and the result of the health care debate.

You better believe they will rail against it. They are not interested in legitimate debate or opposition, they just want to make Obama and the Democratic administration look bad. I mean look at the health care debate, the bills are not radically liberal the Single-payer option was not even debated at all, yet the Republicans are fiercely against it.
