Operation Fill Them Up.

I havent been here long enough to know what exactly happened to the "calling threads" that went on back in the day.

The way that I understand it: There was a list of Senators that was provided on here and everybody would call them. Bombard one Senator at a time and only move on to the next Senator once the previous Senator's voicemail was full. It would go on until the list was complete.

Question: WHO'S DOWN?

Sign up in this thread. I volunteer Angeleno as team leader haha. This is just to get things rolling. Sign up and once we get a good number of people, we'll post a list of Senators and select a date and time.

IM DOWN. Are you?

EDIT:
Here is the list of Senators we are calling. Thanks to Angeleno for putting it together.

Word of advice from the experts:

a. Make sure youre message is uniform (Dont be asking for CIR and then Dream and then a pony) ask for something that ultimately makes sense and is coherent with the group.
b. SUPPORT THE DREAM ACT! *click* <---is not a good message
c. Look for target Senators and focus your efforts onn them.

Re: Operation Fill Them Up.

Okay sexy peeps, I’ve compiled a list of Senators who are instrumental to our victory. There’s a certain priority hierarchy based on meticulous political observations, DAP vote tally (which you’ve all gracefully contributed to) and recent news of the now famous Air Force One calls made by President Obama to likely GOP supporters (co-sponsors?).

It’s really important that we have as many callers as we can possibly assemble because we don’t want the same ten people calling over and over again. Perhaps someone at DreamActivist could help us get the grassroots involved this time (I’m looking at you, S.Aran). I know firedoglake.com helped with the petition to get Scott Brown to talk to the immigrant youth, and that was certainly a success.

Now without further ado, here’s the list:

George LeMieux (Florida)
(202) 224-3041
32801, 33166, 33304, 33901

Dick Lugar (Indiana)
(202) 224-4814
47708, 46383, 46204, 47804

George Voinovich (Ohio)
(202) 224-3353
44199, 45202, 43604, 43215

Judd Gregg (New Hampshire)
(202) 224-3324
03570, 03104, 03801, 03301

Lisa Murkoski (Alaska)
(202) 224-6665
99611, 99701, 99501, 99654

Olympia Snowe (Maine)
(202) 224-5344
04210, 04101, 04769, 04330

Scott Brown (Massachusetts)
(202) 224-4543
01540, 02331, 02714, 01569

Sam Brownback (Kansas)
(202) 224-6521
66603, 66214, 67202, 66762

Susan Collins (Maine)
(202) 224-2523
04210, 04101, 04769, 04330

John Cornyn (Texas)
(202) 224-2934
77007, 78205, 78701, 75244

Orinn Hatch (Utah)
(202) 224-5251
84138, 84601, 84770, 84720

Kay Bailey Hutchinson (Texas)
(202) 224-5922
77007, 78205, 78701, 75244

Bob Bennet (Utah)
(202) 224-5444
84138, 84601, 84770, 84720

FAQ

1) What should I say?

Come up with your own message. These staffers are there to listen to you, so don’t feel rushed and definitely take your time. However, if you freeze at the thought of freestyling it, here’s something to get you started: Hi, I’m calling Senator ____ to ask for his/her support on the upcoming immigration reform bill. The current immigration system is outdated and inefficient, and we need to fix it NOW in a comprehensive, fair, and humane manner. Thank you, and have a wonderful day.

2) Will they track my number down? Call ICE? Send me on a one-way trip to Senor Frog’s?

No, these people have better things to do than go through all that trouble (Mark Foley still hangs around from time to time and those BJs aren’t getting performed by themselves). Even the lunatics calling every single day, threatening to bomb Nancy Pelosi’s house don’t get traced —my guess is all traces would lead to the Bachmann household— so why should you?

3) What if they ask for my address?

I’ve been calling Congress for a very, very long time (try saying that in front of your friends, and see how quickly they give you the side-eyes) and I’ve rarely been asked to disclose such information. There are instances, however, in which they will ask you for your zip code. I’ve provided local zip codes for each of our target Senators; nevertheless, you are neither required, nor advised to provide them if you don’t feel comfortable doing so. Even if you live in a different state, you can still contact out-of-state Senators and ask them to vote a certain way. One word of caveat, though: I personally spoke with one of the staffers and asked him how they tabulated the calls, particularly when it comes to out of state callers. His answer: they do consider them, but only after they’ve considered the calls placed by their own constituents. In other words, they’re not worth as much. Again, the decision is up to you, but bear in mind this information when making your final decision.

Yeah, as soon as we know someone's voicemail is full, the person who started the master list (or any of the mods) can cross that name out for the day.

I'm in. I remember doing the calling campaigns back in the day. They're a bit of a task to do and I was sometimes nervous but quickly got the hang of it and the majority who answer are quite nice.

Im ready... I'm looking out there and It looks like its going to rain... The Immigration debate is in the horizon, I think we need to do everything in our powers to nudge anyone we can toward the right direction.

So if Nick could get involved and get the whole website to get involved in this, it would be nice.

I have a few of my friends who are ready to do some calling too, I think everyong should try to get as many friends as you can to help out!

I've got some family and friends willing to call. I'll make a brand new thread tonight with the contact numbers and guidelines that angeleno (THANKS DUDE!!!) gave us. So that they're right at the front, accessible to anybody that wants to call. Unless somebody else wants to make the thread...

Republicans were being dicks as usual, Teddy Kennedy was sick so he couldn't make it to the vote, and Barbara Boxer was absent as well due to the massive fires in California.

Yeah, once we start operation "fill them up" (sounds so filthy, grrrr) the contact information should go in the lounge so everyone can see it.

Again, let's aim for tomorrow people. This is our last chance.

Nope, we'll go through the whole list everyday. We've done it before (with an even bigger list) and we can do it again.

I dug up an old list so you can see more or less how it's going to go down. Also, you're gonna shit bricks when you see how bad we used to have it:

Re: Operation Fill Them Up.

When you make the new post could you also clear up some things about Operation Fill Them Up?

When do we start calling? (I know tomorrow but what time [zone]?) Are we aiming for all senators per day? What do we post here when we call? How do we know the voice mailbox is full and we move on to the next? Are we leaving voicemails only after the offices close?

Sorry, but these are just some things I was wondering about. I wasn't here a couple of years ago so I'm not sure exactly how it works. Answer what you feel is relevant.

Thanks.

Thanks.

We start calling from the moment you wake up til their voicemails are full (usually late at night).

Yes, we are aiming for all Senators everyday.

We use the daily threads to report on our progress. If there's any concerns about a certain staffer, we let others know as well. Also, we use them to make sure that there are still others calling even in the wee hours.

You will know that their voicemail is full when you hear the recording saying just that.

Yes, during business hours you will actually get to talk to a person, but when they close, you just leave messages.
