I live in GA; I'm going onto my last high school year. What colleges in GA have you been looking into?

I'm at GPC right now. How did you pay for school? It's so expensive, I've only been able to go part-time. My dad's friend's son (lol) is in the same situation as us but got a ton of private scholarships for Emory. I think that's currently our best bet since it's a private school. Are you on TAG?

What is TAG? Also, can you find any links to Emory, for people who want to go there?

It's a program that GPC has that guarantees your admission to a list of schools they are partnered with (Emory is excluded) as long as you meet the criteria. It stands for "Transfer Admission Guarantee". I don't have any links yet but I'm planning on looking into it later.

Yeah..I had to pay out of state tuition for GPC..I've actually finished all classes that I need to take at GPC.

I am tryin to transfer to TECH and UGA and was accepted..but as you know, out of state tuition is around 12,000 per seemester which I can't afford to pay..so unless I find a way to get in-state petition..im stuck here..

Is it worth going to GPC for two years, how much are you paying, and is there a list of colleges that are under the TAG?

I am going Chattahoochee Tech and graduating in a few weeks its so expensive I plan Southern Poly but I might only take like one class a semester. UGA and GT are so expensive it makes no sense.

I'm trying to go to UGA so badly. I'm trying to find a loan and then talk to a potential USC Cosigner for it. But if the USC says no to the loan, I'm pretty much screwed.

I was at FVSU for 2 years on a scholarship. The scholarship was taken away because they found out about my immi status..so I bounced..lol

I was also wondering if any of you guys are currently driving here in GA. I have a WA DL but I don't know how safe it is to drive.

I seriously don't know..I mean I've heard so many different things. From one side I heard it was ok, the other side they say if you have out of state license and is driving GA registered vehicle, they take away the vehicle until you show the valid GA license.

I know one person who had international license and he got pulled over and was deported.

BTW, did you actually fly to Washington to get a license?

yeah i flew there like last year. Do they ask for a SS when you get a ticket? What's the process like when you make an infraction? Man, I really need to drive in order to go to school next semester.

Obviously I'm not the expert BUT here's what I know:

They don't accept International Licenses because maybe two years ago so many people were making counterfeit ones, so now they just don't accept them at all.

Washington DL... If you get pulled over, they'll give you a ticket and set you a court date. BUT (and I know this because this happened to our neighbor and a family friend) if you come in with a lawyer, nothing happens. You simply pay the fine and you're okay. What I've concluded is that if you speak English, the cops are usually about 10x nicer to you. Our family friend has gotten pulled over multiple times and most times he was able to successfully communicate with the officer and he has not gotten deported or into any sort of trouble. Our old neighbor was pulled over for speeding, got a ticket and court date, sent a lawyer and he was also okay. So, yeah, it's bad BUT it's something that if you're willing to pay to pay a lawyer, you can get out of.

So.. LAYWER, LAWYER, LAWYER.

Re: anyone attending universities in GA?

Thanks for the help. I've been told by someone with an out-of-state license that has gotten pulled over and into accidents that it's actually safer than you'd think. He said he hasn't been asked anything related to status mainly because he spoke English well. Just make sure you have your DL, insurance, and registration.

If anyone has had other experiences in GA, please let us know!

Also, one more thing, someone posted this a couple of months ago, BUT if you're an out of state student, which all of us are if we're going to school, we're allowed to drive with an out of state license without getting in trouble :)
