Sen. Bob Menendez, "we have 97-98percent of democrats...l

Sen. Bob Menendez was on "Al Punto" on the spanish television network Univision and said 97-98% of Democrats will vote in favor of the DREAM Act and all we need is 4-5 Republicans to side with us.

Let's not give up! We need to gain momentum and keep calling more and more each day.

It sux that we cant get 100 percent of democrats to agree with us. But 97-98 + repubs shud be plenty enough! hopefully ..

If the guy is telling the truth at all then we have all but 1 democrats in favor. So 58 democrats + at least 2 republicans

I hope Sen. Reid had the votes before he announced he planned to attach the DREAM Act. Then again, he did say he wouldn't bring it up if he didn't have the votes.

If it doesn't pass then we will see his true motive.

he didn't need to have the votes. he most likely didn't know how many votes he had. even if he fails to pass dream he can say ohh latinos and hispanics well shit I tried so you know vote for us anyways so that we will have a better chance of passing it in the next year or two. but 97-98% of democrats voting for dream is probably right.

I could definitely tell you which Democrat opposes Dream Act. That one opposing democrat will be Ben Nelson (NE).

Lugar is definitely in for DREAM

all we need is one more which most likely would be, at the least, LeMeiux from FL

Any word from Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins. Sometimes I feel like women have softer hearts for young people compared to those Hitler-like racist, black-hearted, southern, white, republicans.

They're supposed to be Yea. But the Republican party leadership is pushing them to vote No for the sake of party unity

I'm just anxious to see how some of them are going to vote. If it does not pass, now we'll know who to target in case it can be brought up by itself before this congress ends.

I'll be watching live, anxiously taking my own count of the votes. Oh boy...

Re: Sen. Bob Menendez, "we have 97-98percent of democrats...l

I hope he is right, we should have no trouble passing if this is true. Oh god please let it be true. Plus who knows, before Reid said he would attach it to the Defense bill McCain said he would consider voting Yea if there was large support in the senate (1-2 votes needed to pass for example). Plus the more democrats who support a legislation the more likely republicans will, too. Plus I know there are 1-3 incumbents right now that could secure their seat in the senate if they vote Yea and pass the dream act because, for the most part, their challengers are saying they support Dream but not CIR. Pass DREAM and the challenger has nothing to stand by without changing their political standpoint on CIR.

Also with that projected number of democrats it leaves us 1 democrat short...something tells me its Senator Hagan from North Carolina. =( This place is a political battleground. NC went blue for the first time since.......the last 4 presidents in office lol. Obama took NC by under 20k votes I believe. So senator Hagan, although a democrat, has faced a lot of adversity. I just hope Richard Burr looses his seat in the coming midterm elections to Elaine Marshall (Secretary of State for North Carolina). I hope Hagan changes her mind on Dream and votes Yea. Emails, calls, protests, hunger strickes...nothing seems to be changing her view on the damn thing other than it should be part of CIR and she will only vote for it if it is part of CIR.

I want burr out, no incumbent in his seat has been reelected since the mid 70's, he has 44% of votes in the poles, Marshal has 43%. Marshal is expected to get latino votes if DREAM passes and Women votes given her past as a Women's domestic violence lawyer and christian support having graduated from a christian school.

Re: Sen. Bob Menendez, "we have 97-98percent of democrats...l

Lugar would probably go against his party and vote yea. We might be able to persuade Brownback, Snowe, Collins, and LeMieux. If all of them vote yea, then we will reach the magic number (assuming Menendez's estimate is correct).

Because these senators are under a lot of pressure from the Republican leadership, we really don't know how they are going to vote. I guess we'll find out next week.

I hear ya, does anyone know what time the senate will vote on the bill? Cuz if its during the time I go to school I'll just go downstairs in the library sit in a nice corner and watch the votes online. CNN and Cspan stream right?

If not I'll do my best to keep up to date by opening up my laptop to check updates either during my classes or in between brakes. (I don't expect the vote to take very long unless there is a filibuster, but still, I want to be able to see it happen real time)

I'm so not watching. I'd probably have a meltdown too. It's mind boggling the amount of power those people in congress hold.

Yea, thats 60.

Maybe they can change some stuff in DA to make it tougher to get it to pass like in the HCR. How about 4 years in college and/or 4 years in military? Higher fines?

Disagree, even if it comes short. It will come again for a vote. It may even come as stand-alone and then of course as part of CIR after elections. Plenty of chances to pass. Don't forget the executive order too.
