So I went to BOA counter today and the teller said...

I looked at your records and it seems that you don't have a BOA credit card yet. Would you like to open one? It will only take 5 minutes...

I didn't know what to say...

Does anybody have the same experience? I've been a BOA customer ever since I turned 18. I didn't want to be embarrassed of getting rejected by not having an SSN. I mean they did offer it.

Ahh I guess I'll just have to go for it next time...

Any thoughts?

I thought BOA gave credit cards to illegals. I might be wrong.

This happened to me once, but with Chase...the SSN (gave ITIN) came up as invalid. She just assumed that there was a mistake and asked me to try again. I pretended as if I was in a rush, and said I'll come back again later.

It'll probably work if you actually speak with a representative in the back (not a teller), and let them know that it's an ITIN, not a SSN...they may put it in manually or something..

You can still try with BOA...it might be different?

My views on BOA is simple: Fuck BOA. I've been with my bank for many years, but my mother wanted to open a new account so I went with her and she wanted me to be a signer on her account. She is 100% legal with her green card. I have a SSN and had a state license at that point (sigh good old days). They wanted to see my green card too! I was shocked. I just said I'll come in another day to do it.

Then a few months later, there was a press release that BOA would offer undocumented immigrants with "special" accounts where they would charge them extra to get accounts. So you see, it wasn't exactly a legal issue for them, but they wanted to squeeze us.

So yeah, fuck BOA.

idk but for me I see that as a good thing... I've seen how destructive credit card debt can be, especially with the interests which piles up to the point that whatever you make just goes towards the interest.Having a credit score may be essential here in the US, so I get why people do it... but for someone like me who has no stable job or status for that matter, its unlikely I would need a score to buy a house or a car anytime soon. It's actually a good way to avoid temptation to spend with a credit card by simply not having one! :]

Yeah, my aunt is an LPR and she just filed for bankrupcy...what a moron... really.

I think that if you are smart you can handle a credit card. Maybe use it like a debit card in the sense that you should not buy if you do not already have to money to make the payment.

I have the Rewards BoFA which I got about a year ago. I started off with a secured credit card ($500), which means you just use your own money to build credit. After a year of that and paying the card at the end of each month, I applied for the rewards one and got.

Did you have any problems getting your deposit back? Also, how do they give it back? Mail you a check etc?

Ive got a Capital One credit card and I'm pretty sure BOA gives credit cards to us as long as we apply in person. But the real question is, how to get a credit score/report?? What happens when we finally get SSNs in the future?

You can get a credit report from Experian but no credit score. Capital One uses CreditInform and they compute a credit score for you. Take care of your credit because when you have a social the social security administration can transfer all the taxes you've paid to your new social. The credit companies do a lot of matching simply by address and name so until you have a social use the same name spelling and address. Your credit will follow you that way. I imagine once you have a social you can write the credit companies if your ITIN still shows on your report.

BoFA does give you a credit card but you have to apply in person.

Word. I've been paying my balance in full within a week after my new statement comes out. Capital One usually starts you off with $500 limit and then they increase the credit little by little after a number of payments. I'm going to apply for the BOA card as well.

if you came her legally then you probably have a tax id number. You can sign up w/ BoA with that instead of SSN

I just found out that capital one does not give deposits back unless you cancel the account, well I can't really complain

How do you get one from Experian? I wasn't successful online. Do we have to mail a request in?

you can get the "Experian" report from Quizzle. They just ask for your name, address and date of birth. If there is enough information on your credit your file comes up. They give you a score also.
