Eric Cantor Endorses the Principles of the DREAM Act

Is this an endorsement of the Dream act by the House gop?

Policy details will need worked out, but this is as close to an endorsement as we've seen from the House Majority Leader

A good place to start is with the kids. One of the great founding principles of our country was that children would not be punished for the mistakes of their parents. It is time to provide an opportunity for legal residence and citizenship for those who were brought to this country as children and who know no other home.

We're talking about the legislative Dream act not the administrative implementation of DACA.This is definitely one concern I think needs mentioning so that the bill is all encompassing.

The Judiciary committees will have the final say on a bill so I think we can probably do something about it during that time period or when it comes to the floor of either chamber. The point is to get age-out stories out their NOW to influence policy!

Most GOP people seem to support GC and USC for dream kids only. They may support a legal status for other undocumented workers which may or may not lead to a GC. They prefer to do it piece by piece.

The Democrats are not satisfied with the Dream Act this time. They want a CIR plus LBGT in it. They want to do it all at once.

I agree. DA is much easier than CIR. It should be passed separately.

I have been preaching that since it mattered to me in 2005. Now I don't care.

First test the waters with a less controversial bill and then go with the rest. If you can't get everything something is better than nothing in my opinion.

I think CIR/DA is easier at this point.

They should add Retroactive provisions with no age cap.

I don't understand where this mentality of 'all or nothing' from the dems came from.

Do it piece by piece, or no one will get anything.

The Repubs will have to cave in and will cave in I'm afraid. There's no point in passing DA only. CIR is a must.

I pretty much agree with you, the repubs are only resorting to piecemeal due to the fact that they finally have to act in some way. They had the chance to act for us two years ago, where was their sympathy in december of 2010? Where were the crocodile tears before june 15th 2012? before November 2012? To hell with piecemeal, CIR all the way!

they are just now realizing that. Durbin has been shoving that exact excerpt into their faces since 2001...

It came from Obama. You don't realize that if the Republicans deny the passage of CIR again they will remain in ill favor of Hispanic minority votes. And might even lose control of the House come next election. Republicans want a piece meal so they can pass one thing, gain favor and deny the rest. It is a brilliant attempt at doing nothing and getting everything for them. That is why I believe Obama wants everything at once or people will be left out such as LGBT if done by piecemeal. And that in piecemeal it will all get even more diluted by Republican deductions once they pass the first part. I hope that makes sense. It's what I believe. I realize it must worry you that nothing will get done, if done all at once. But you have to realize Republicans are actually being proactive on immigration because it is hurting them. It's now or never, and it is way better to help everyone and not screw it all up with a piecemeal.
