Difficulty having a J.O.B
Hey guys, is anyone having trouble finding a job. I have applied to over 15 companies in the past month and got 2 rejections so far, I have apply to almost everywhere I could think of, Wal-Mart, Publix, CVS, Walgreens, Target, etc. I didn't think it would be that hard. Where are you currently employed at?

Re: Difficulty having a J.O.B
Have you also tried temp agencies? My sister got hired through one of them and now she is an HR coordinator.

Re: Difficulty having a J.O.B
I guess what we didn't remember when we applied for DACA was how bad the job market was...
|
Re: Difficulty having a J.O.B
From my point of view, the job market has been pretty bad since 2008... I hear it's getting better?
Looking at future trends in the field of education, however, if CIR does require people to learn English, there is going to be a great demand for ESL classes... just a thought I've been having. |
Re: Difficulty having a J.O.B
Yup!!! Over 50 apps sent and only 3 interviews. Employers aren't offering me a decent wage and if this trend continues, I might end up accepting a low-wage offer.
And I have almost 10 years of experience!!!! half as a supervisor!!!!! It's slow right now so I'm hoping things pick up soon and thus more offers will become available.... Hang in there, you're not the only one struggling. |
Re: Difficulty having a J.O.B
I just started to applied like a week ago so I can't say I'm in the same position. I've also applied to retail stuff. Best of luck to everyone!

Re: Difficulty having a J.O.B
I recently got hired at Lowes on the 5th of Feb as an assembler thanx to my construction background before DACA.

Re: Difficulty having a J.O.B
Nowadays you gotta have somebody hook you up with a job, filling out applications online is pretty much a waste of time.

Re: Difficulty having a J.O.B
Becareful when filing applications online, I think I got scammed fuck me.

Re: Difficulty having a J.O.B
I hope you find employment OP, however never underestimate the power of NETWORKING
Ask family members and close friends to see if any of their own employers are hiring. That's how I got a job. If you live in a metro area look outside of that, widen your search. Good luck. :-) |
Re: Difficulty having a J.O.B
Put your resumes up on CareerBuilder. I did and I'm now receiving emails from random financial companies. Unfortunately, not one response yet from an Accounting firm, the field I need to get into.

Re: Difficulty having a J.O.B
Aghh this is so discouraging. I haven't applied to anything but just seeing the requirements gives me anxiety! If people with experience aren't having luck then i'm fucked cuz I have no experience :-S

Re: Difficulty having a J.O.B
If you are bi or tri-langual, try searching for jobs that specifically require those language skills. GL

Re: Difficulty having a J.O.B
OMG. Finding a job has been waaay more difficult than I thought here in Chicago.
Today I got an interview with an aviation company, (first interview and callback EVER) but they rejected me for being 17. And I wouldn't be able to get the job anyways because their training is in Mexico so I'd need citizenship or an advance parole to be able to do the training. I'm sad because it was a really good opportunity. I applied to all the retail stores and restaurants in my area, McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy's, Subway, Walgreens, Target, Walmart, YOU NAME IT! I've been doing it every week for the past 2-3 months and not one callback. I applied to banks in my area also, and I've just been rejected for my age. So frustrating :( Oh! And I had my aunt speak to her manager to get a job at the supermarket she works at, but they aren't hiring right now and won't be for a while. And let's not mention I don't have any experience -_____- |

P.S. You were offered a job in Mexico? Why didn't you apply for advance parole? Gosh, I would do anything to be in Mexico (with the guarantee of coming back to the U.S.) in order to see my dad |

And the job I was offered only the training would be done in Mexico which would be for a week with all expenses paid. I can't get the job since I'm under age anyways :/ |
Re: Difficulty having a J.O.B
Seriously guys? Waiting table sucks but when you make more money in one weekend than fast food workers make in a week its kinda worth it. Sometimes you have to start small. I started working at a corporate owned restaurant, started training others in less than six months. I was offered an assistant manager position which I didn't take because of my status. I couldn't get a certain permit (alcohol) that you had to go to court for and show valid ID. My point is... Do what you need to do to earn a living.

Re: Difficulty having a J.O.B
My sister got a receptionist job on craigslist for an accounting firm! But she didn't fill an application out online just sent them her resume and got a call for an interview the next day. She also found me three possible positions I'm going to apply for. There are some okay opportunities on there just be SUPER careful.

Re: Difficulty having a J.O.B
Email I just got from Publix:
Thank you for taking the time to update your application. We know there are many places you could pursue employment, so we appreciate your interest in Publix Super Markets. We have fewer openings than usual because of the tight economy. And even when we do have an opening, only two or three applicants are called in for interviews. So if you aren't called, it's not because we don't think you have something to offer - it's because we have hundreds of applicants for each opening and we can only select one person to hire. Your application will remain active until the date you were given when you updated it. You can update your application at any Publix store. Publix is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to a diverse workforce. Please do not reply to this email. Rejection email, potential employer or automated response? |

I had an interview today at a Casino, foods & beverages position, nonetheless I WALKED OUT after a few minutes of starting the interview with the line-cook due to the severe and stressful panic attacks that I am currently severed under. If was F-ing heavvyyyy. I couldn't take it, I had to get up and run out of the main building. It was vertigo, claustrophobic jizz rattling all over my brain...AGH!

Re: Difficulty having a J.O.B
craigslist is a good source, and not as sketch as folks may think. Just follow the tips they have on there to ensure privacy/security. Many employers do not give out full details for the sole purpose of not having folks solicit them for w/e reason.
So far I have applied to 6 total areas. All entry level, nothing spectacular. The caveat is many places are only looking to hire full-time workers. Which cuts me/us out of a lot of jobs. I received an email today from a local seasonal employer who posted about a paid internship on craigslist. I have been mailed asking when would be a good time for me to have an interview. Hope things go well :) the pay isn't great, but it is 4 months experience that could prove invaluable as I transition to another location. |

www.indeed.com They see, pretty legit, no scam. I have also tried Craiglist but meehh. However, I would say that if you are looking in Craiglist and you are afraid of doing applications online, don't do them, just write down the company's adress (if shown) and move along to the next one and if you can go next day and do an application in person (if you can). We all have to start somewhere. I had shitty jobs in my past. I was a porter for 2 years, not the worst job but I want to be somewhere were I can learn SOMETHING that is going to help me out with a career . My family and I have hit rock bottom like many you you here. We had to go pick up oranges , cucumber (the worst) , pine needling and others. It SUCKS!! but we just have to keep on fighting! Don't give up! |

Re: Difficulty having a J.O.B
The funny thing is we are all pretty damn intelligent and extremely hard working and all we can currently do for ourselves is get some tedious job to cover our daily lives. Lol
I wonder if this is just us or is it just this bad in the US right now? |
