CA DREAMers - Have anyone received their Cal Grants?

Has any CA DREAMers receive a Cal Grants for a UC?

I applied to UCSD, UCB and UCLA and they are all releasing their decisions late April...

If you have received them please post so we can all gauge the likelihood of CA DREAMers getting Cal Grants.

I believe you can check the Cal Grants status here: https://mygrantinfo.csac.ca.gov/

Thanks! :)

Hey SD23 glad to see someone in my situation here. I just received my acceptance to UCI just waiting on UCLA too which should be mid April I was told by their admissions representative the last time I met with him. Were suppose to hear back on the CAdream Act on May 1 .

@dannyblur

So you have not gotten any notice for your Cal Grants for UCI?

Re: CA DREAMers - Have anyone received their Cal Grants?

Not yet, all I've received so far is the Regents scholarship that is listed on my UCI admissions portal. It says on the Dream Act Website that if you applied by the march 2 deadline, were suppose to hear back on May 1st .

Currently at UCB and receive enough to cover tuition and housing expenses. Make sure you filled out the California DREAM act application and you will receive up to 12k per semester depending on you EFC.

colossus what was your EFC? mine was 0 hope this sends 12k my way, still apart from scholarships that 12k would come in handy.

My EFC was around 2k. I think it varies by school (the amount you receive is determined by your schools fin aid office) but at the very least you should receive enough for tuition and books.

nice, Im still waiting to hear back from CSAC. Hopefully everything goes well and Ill just have to submit my SIR . Quick question, do you know if you have to submit an SIR first then you'll find out how much aid you will be receiving or do you have to wait till May 1st like it says on the CSAC website?

I applied last february and sent in my gpa. i realized that they didn't received my official gpa after the march 2 deadline. is there still a chance for me to get cal grant? my california dream act says

Your Dream Act Application has been selected for verification. Please check with your campus financial aid office to submit the required information. and apparently September 2 is a deadline for cal grant in community colleges, do i still have a chance?

So the way that it has been working up until now is that the University determines how much you are getting. It might change but that's how it worked for this current semester. It could be different this time around.

However, from a logical point of view, I think you will know how much you will get well after you submit your SIR. The reason I say this is that, say you are considering either UC Davis or SF State, for the sake of this example. The amount of financial aid you would get would depend on which school you choose, since CSU's are way cheaper than UC's. So I'm guessing you will get it well after your SIR submission.

In addition, I personally only knew how much I would be getting a few weeks before the semester began, and not when I applied. The process has changed and is significantly different so we may know earlier but who knows.

Here is why you may not know how much you are getting until the semester/quarter rolls around. The California DREAM act was passed on the idea that undocumented students would receive financial aid from the year's leftovers. In other words, we don't get any aid until everyone else has been covered. This might mean that we might always have to wait until the start of the semester to know how much we get.

Hope this helps.

Judging from the past couple semesters, you should be fine. They are much more lenient with CA DREAM act applications than with FAFSA. What you should do however, is contact your school's fin aid office and ask them what you are missing.

Re: CA DREAMers - Have anyone received their Cal Grants?

Quick update, I went back and checked my financial aid statements from the current semester, and here are the details. My EFC was ~1500 and I received a total of 12,000 in financial aid. Tuition this semester was $7,492.75, and I spent approximately 500 in books. Again, I am studying at UC Berkeley so this info will only help those going to UCB and any other UC (but with less accuracy probably).

Re: CA DREAMers - Have anyone received their Cal Grants?

My school, CSUN, emailed me to confirm that they got my application. They also told me top keep an eye out for requests for additional documents. The email made it sound like I should expect something to happen in mid April. I don't know when I'll get my disbursement.

Hmm maybe. You will get your disbursement when all tuition and other university costs are covered if there is any money left over.

Re: CA DREAMers - Have anyone received their Cal Grants?

mmm this makes things a little tricky then. What if no money is left over and Ill be left having to cover the 11k that UCI cost vs the 6k that CSULB would have cost after I submit my SIR.
Thanks for the info so far Colossus

Yea just ask them whether you are missing anything, and whether there is anything else that you have to do.

Can you get financial aid for grad school? I plan on going for my MBA this fall, but I don't think I can do out of pocket like I did for my undergrad.

Hmm not that I know of. You might want to look into fellowships and stuff like that.

Re: CA DREAMers - Have anyone received their Cal Grants?

I went to the financial aid and the lady seems to have no clue about the california dream act atm. So she told me to come back at the end of the month because they dont have the info or whatever right now. and she asked me for the CSAC ID and I don't have it

do you guys have a csac id? oh and btw. I sent my GPA verification a week before the march 2 deadline and turns out they didn't get it.

If you sent your Cal Grant GPA Verification Form on or before the March 2, 2013 deadline and have proof of mailing, you should submit the proof of mailing and a copy of the GPA form along with a Late GPA Verification Form. CSAC must receive these documents by May 16, 2013.

what proof should i send them? because i swear i sent in my gpa i have no idea why they didn't receive it.

Hi, I turned in my California Dream Act application too. If you go to the webgrant page, you can make an account and check how much grant you are getting from the Cal Grant. My EFC was 0 and I got 12k for the Cal Grant A. (UC)

Do you only see the amount once you are accepted to the UC?

Muse 04-16-2013 06:08 PM

Re: CA DREAMers - Have anyone received their Cal Grants?

No, I saw the amount even before I was accepted. If you submitted the California Dream Act Application and GPA form, you can make an account at www.webgrants4students.org and check your grant status. It will tell you how much you will receive.

Mine still says "Application Awaiting Processing". When did yours get updated?

Do you have your CSAC ID? If so how did you get one?

Muse 04-16-2013 06:18 PM

Re: CA DREAMers - Have anyone received their Cal Grants?

Mine got updated as soon as I turned in the the California Dream Act application.

And I think you can make your CSAC ID by pressing the "Create an Account" on that website... Or am is this ID something else?

I have an account on the webgrant site but my csac id is blank

Re: CA DREAMers - Have anyone received their Cal Grants?

You can see your CSAC ID under the "CA Aid Report".

Muse 04-16-2013 06:27 PM

Re: CA DREAMers - Have anyone received their Cal Grants?

Also, if you click "CA Aid Report" you can check when your application was processed. Mine says "Date Issued: 02/28/13".
Also, your expected grant amount for your schools that you put on the Cal Dream Act (only 3 shows) is there as well.
