Senate Bill Text Released
Full Bipartisan Senate Immigration Reform Bill Has Been Released by Sen. @ChuckSchumer
http://www.schumer.senate.gov/forms/immigration.pdf DREAM part in plain English: Individuals who entered the U.S. before the age of 16 and who have completed high school or obtained a GED in the U.S. may register for RPI status through the DREAM Act. RPI status provides work and travel authorization, as well as ability to enlist in the military, but no federal benefits (Obamacare, federal loans or grants, etc). There is no age cap for the program. Individuals who received Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals are grandfathered into RPI status. DREAM RPIs are exempted from penalties and the triggers. Five years after registration, DREAM RPIs may apply for adjustment of status to Permanent Residency if they have completed at least 2 years in an institution of higher education or 4 years in the military; their time in RPI status will count towards eligibility for naturalization, allowing them to become citizens immediately after receiving their green card. Children under age 16 have a five year path to citizenship and are exempted from certain requirements. The bill heightens child welfare protections to ensure parental rights are not terminated on the basis of a parent’s immigration status alone. |

Re: Senate Bill Text Released
Looks like we'll be Registered Provisional Immigrants for 5 years as opposed to Conditional Permanent Residents. Which means no federal financial aid, among other drawbacks.
|
Re: Senate Bill Text Released
Basically to be a PR, you need:
-5 years of being a registered provisional immigrant -Came before 16 yo -High School Diploma -Have completed at least 2 years of higher education for a BA |

Re: Senate Bill Text Released
if you were DACA approved, you don't even need the qualifactions of this version of the Dream Act as , being DACA approved is enough for green cards!!!

I only ask because on page 111 lines 13 & 14: "(i) has been a registered provisional immigrant for at least 5 years" which is a requirement that DACA recipients have not met. |

So the 5 year provisional immigrant applies to the people who doesn't qualify for DACA due to age? Text not clear |
Re: Senate Bill Text Released
yeah and 15
with the Dream Act in this bill is more lenient, 16 years, and under 36 (not 35 like we heard at first) but you have to complete those 5 years first it looks they MIGHT go through another path thought the word path is NOT used there but DACA approved people might just have a different way |

Re: Senate Bill Text Released
Dream Act (p 110, line 4)
First, dreamers must apply for CPR (conditional/provisional permanent resident). After meeting certain conditions, Dreamers can apply of PR. To adjust for Permanent Residence (Green Card) 1. Have CPR for at least five years 2. Arrived in the US before 16 years old. 3. Earned a High School Diploma or GED 4. a. Acquired a degree from an accredited college/university or at least 2 years into one. OR b. Served in the military for at least 4 years. 5. Submit Biometrics (fingerprints, photo, background checks) DACA recipients (p 115, line 22) 1. Are grandfathered into the Dream Act 2. Would be provided streamlined procedures-it's up to the Secretary of Homeland Security-for CPR. *Meaning: Those who have applied and have been approved for DACA would be processed/adjusted (faster?) for CPR. Dreamer --> CPR --> PR --> Citizenship. It's 1:30 am where I'm at. This is the best summary I can make of it. **Please note that this is the Gang of 8's plan. The bill is still subject for debate/amendments. Plus there's the House Bill as well** |
