Schumer and Sessions at markup

Re: Schumer and Sessions at markup

I am not surprised that Schumer did not cut him out as it happened during the previous hearings, this is a debate after all.

How soon will the US government start regulating how many kids each family is allowed to have? Like the government-mandated birth control in China, Iran, and Chile??

Senator Schumer's plan will substantially increase the population level of this country, thus exhausting the sources that we can all have access to.

Not everybody wants his/her hometown to be as MESSY/CROWDED as New York City!!!

Not another New York City!!

Consider antinatalism for yourself and also the potential for gentrification of major US cities by highly educated immigrants.

With this bill, around 11 million people will eventually qualify for citizenship but those people are already here! Granted, it increases the number of visas but they will be merit-based, favoring high-skilled immigrants, or in the agricultural sectors. Why even increase the #? Answer: DEMAND. Not to mention the $17 billion (over 10 years) for double-layer fencing, surveillance tech., and border patrol agents.

Not sure if troll, but oh well

When the US government requires your grandson have NO MORE than ONE kid, how would they feel?

I support the path to citizenship for people who are ALREADY here.

I do NOT support a substantial increase in the future flow of immigrants.

More guest worker visas are needed. But those visas should NOT lead to a green card.

Also, birthright citizenship should be re-defined by law.

This is ridiculous.

The US is and should always be a nation of immigrants. We should always be open to people who seek freedom and are motivated.

Take your anti-immigrant stance somewhere else.

You wouldn't be saying that if you weren't here.. Doesn't matter what you want. It's what's good for the people and what's good for the country and legalization is good but so is the future flow, we need a young workforce to pay into SS for those who are retired.

You have to ask why some countries limit the growth of the population.

You have to ask why some countries limit the number of kids each family is allowed to have.

Why does the country ALWAYS have to be a country of immigrants?

Should the Roman Empire ALWAYS be powerful because it used to be powerful?

Time changes, so does everything.

The notion of *a country of immigrants* is absolutely out of date these days for America.

native Americans are the true Americans. Everyone else who came over and built this nation were immigrants aswell. this country was Built by immigrants from the start. The roman empire did not start off powerful they got to that point by building it up to what it was.

i have no idea why you compared the roman empire to the united states

anyways i feel that they should decrease the amount of low skilled work visas, increase visas for collage graduates who want to pursue a career that will fill positions that there's a demand for.

I would be completely fine with this. In fact, I'd commend the efforts to reduce population in the face of resource shortages or projected ones.

Re: Schumer and Sessions at markup

US birthrate is decreasing anyways. People are having less children, especially more educated career-minded individuals. Indexing the flow of immigrants in accordance to population fluctuation is not a all a bad thing. Furthermore, immigration won't be the root cause of population control "birthing limit" in the future. It'll be because of our advance medicine and aging population.

When I compare the US with the Roman Empire, I mean they are much alike.

The Roman Empire used to be democratic and strong. Then it began to decline and eventually collapsed. The US seems to be following the same unfortunate path: Already started to decline and declining quickly.....

When the US collapses one day, our and our children's American dream will also collapse.

I agree with you that the number of low-skilled visas should decrease.

The Roman Empire was ruled by a dictator with near unrestricted power. In the formative years of the empire -- when it had just transitioned from republic to empire-- there was a war for independence because their Italian allies were treated as second class citizens. Although the allies lost the war, the Romans concided citizenship to them a few years later.

Also although the empire was huge, you had to be physically present in Rome to cast your vote... Yeah talk about democracy when one city makes the decisions for everyone.
