Using your passport for traveling
 

I know we had a brief discussion on using your foreign passport to travel on planes around the U.S. I just wanted to know if anyone has actually done that? Instead of showing a U.S. government issued ID, have you used your foreign passport? If so... how did it go? Did they question you or anything? I'm getting my renewed passport in about 2 weeks and I wanted to use it to fly in the U.S. It obviously won't have a visa in it like my old one, but I think I could still use it.

If anyone knows anything about this... I would greatly appreciate the information.

It'll be fine. I have used my passport to travel in a plane several times and I've never had a problem. It doesnt have to be a U.S. government issue ID. Foreign passports are fine.

Nope.

No. I dont think you can use it if its expired. Once i was cheking in and i showed my passport and the guy thought that the expiration date was the issued date( which was in 2005 so he tought it was expired), and he told me i couldnt fly if it was expired. But then i corrected him and he said it was ok.

My passport isn't expired, but had no visa. It still worked and everything went well.

apparently, since that's what people have been saying. I just went to my consulate a month ago and filled out a form to get my passport renewed. It came in the mail a couple days ago. so that's why i asked if i could travel. as long as your passport is not expired, i guess it's fine!

and now i can go out to the bars with my friends... a lot of them are happy that i'm kind of normal now lol. i even ordered a beer last night with the passport. hehe.

^haha thanks... even though i turned 21 two years ago and have drank before, it felt nice to finally be able to show some proof of my age. most people when they see me think that i'm still in high school... haha. i love these scenarios:
me- yeah i just graduated in may
other person: really? what high school?
me: umm i graduated from college
other person: oh i'm so sorry, you look so young
me: that's ok... at least when i'm older i'll look younger and it'll be a good thing.

OMG. Finally, someone that shares my pain.

Except with me, they just don't stop. "No, wait wait. YOU'RE in COLLEGE?" LOL

I always just show my college ID since they only ask for 1 form now..
I also have a Student Travelers ID. im not sure were i got that but ^^

So you are saying I can travel in U.S with a student I.D. or should I take my passport with me.

I am 26 and people still ask me to prove my age!!! I cannot go to my local movie teather to watch damn 300 cause they asked me to prove my my fucking age. Every one at work still call me kid. It pisses me off so much. Some day, some day I'll look old and then I will be able to see all the violent rated R movies I want to see...or make dream pass SAP. Still, I was wondering about your guys cause I am brown and I have the Mexican look. I need to travel for my job and I was wondering if my mexican look is going to be an issue in the airport. I know it is a lame ass question but I do not want my company to spend good money on a ticket and anticipate my ass in some place just to find out that i was not able to travel.

i always travel wit Student ID they ask me for nothing else I got highschoo and college ID.
its safe. i remember the 1st couple of times i was kinda nervous about using those ID's but dont wrry :D

anyways ya dont worry u can travel wit Student ID's ive been to Florida 2 times this year and once to Utah & Dallas & Chicago & Huston & New York. Trust me never had a problem :D

I Just remembered , why I'm so nervous, I heard at one of my jobs that starting January 08 you will need a US passport to travel in the states. Have you heard or has anyone heard about this. Where can I find about if this is true?

I have never heard of that.. I tought that was for like Hawaii or Alaska or smthing.. but never heard about needing a US passport to travel within the U.S.. i will look more into that. i rlly hope thats not the case cuz i travel every year :( :(

I really don't think you'll need a passport to travel within the U.S. All you need is a government issued ID. Also, they just passed a law this year that you need your passport to travel to Mexico and Canada so maybe that might have confused you to think it's within the U.S.

Do you have a passport? Or any form of id? Lol she said she has the mexican look, somebody told me you look like salma hayek :wink:

When i was in high school i had no problem traveling with my high school ID, then when i turned 18 i was supposed to fly to Miami, this idiot wouldnt let me through because he was like you just turned 18 you need to have a government issued ID.,,. So i had to go to DMV and get one, no problems since then traveled to Seattle, Hawaii, Chicago, Dallas.. i guess if you cant get a government issued one, just use your foreign passport you should have no problems

OptimistDenail . . . in the airport you get people from literally all over the world. You get the most foreign non English speaking people... It's an airport!... a "look" is not suspicious... a bizarre attitude might be... like if someone's all nervous, they might be like "what's wong?"... But looks shouldn't be a problem at all. Just smile at everyone<<< secret weapon. . .. . . . and have the attitude of a traveler. : )

P.S- My situation is opposite. I'm 20 and ppl think I'm in my late twenties, i even got 30 once!!!

I hate it when you check your bags and they ask you " Has anyone else besides you packed your bags and might have put in something illegal?!" or something illegal... Even if i knew and they did, WHY in the world would i tell you?

LOL yeah even after you told me your age like 3 times I still kept seeing you as like 26.. and when we got back from D.C. my husband saw your picture and thought you were the lawyer aide or senate staff !! I said no that's mblu LOL he also said you looked like a teacher

I think it's because you are tall and stand up straight and sit up straight.. and have lots of confidence..

I went somewhere with my 40 plus aunt and some idiot lady was like is that your wife??? i was 20 back then so after that i don't grow my facial hair anymore. :lol:

LOL this discussion just reminded me of something.. I was with my mother last year in a store, this was when she still smoked, she quit 9 months ago.. She tried to buy a pack of cigarettes shes is 46!!! yrs old they asked her for ID!! I was like WTF?!... But if you ask mblue, and taskgirl they will tell you i dont look 25 at all i look like 17 the most.. I used to get carded everywhere.. TIP: If you look young, make friends with bouncers, DJ's , waitresses, movie ushers, bouncers, strippers etc lol everywhere where you need to be over 21 to enter it will save you alot of time

Hey NYC is a big place and when you are out with your friends "stuff" happens lol Whatever happens stays in Vegas, well whatever happens in NYC it stays in NYC although i live here lol...And whats wrong with having stripper friends?! that you went to high school, college with LOL...
