Congressman: Senate immigration bill unconstitutional

Quote:

Rep. Steve Stockman, a Texas Republican, said Friday that the Senate immigration bill is a revenue measure, which makes it unconstitutional because all revenue bills must start in the House.

“Not only is the Senate amnesty bill an abuse of taxpayers and immigrants, it’s utterly unconstitutional,” Mr. Stockman said. “The Senate cannot invent its own amnesty taxes.”

He called on House Speaker John A. Boehner to officially reject the Senate bill as unconstitutional using what’s known in Congress as the “blue slip” process, which is when the House informs the Senate that one of its bills contains taxes or spending and therefore must come from the House.

Blue slip procedures are considered privileged motions and can be brought quickly to the chamber floor for debate and a final vote.

Article I, Section 7, Clause 1 of the Constitution says that “all bills for raising revenue shall originate in the House,” which has traditionally meant both tax and spending bills.

Mr. Boehner has already said the Senate bill is dead on arrival and won’t be considered in the House, which will work on its own version.

House Republicans are set to meet July 10 to talk about how to proceed on the issue.
Credit goes to Imaman concerning the information.

Steve Stockman respresents the 36th congressional district in Texas which is the Southeast portion of the state and one of the most racist. It includes includes all of Newton, Jasper, Tyler, Polk, Orange, Hardin, Liberty, and Chambers counties, plus portions of southeastern Harris County.[3]

He'll probably hold his seat for a while because well, when the guy is representing a city like Jasper where white guys dragged a black man to his death along with other things that go on there, that should tell you about the voters there, but there is no excuse for having hardline Republicans in the other areas of the state with high Hispanic populations.

So how likely will this happen?

I find it crazy that a minority of racist, ass-backwards politicians can hinder such a landmark piece of legislation.

Ive heard about this but didn't know a lot. Well, quite frankly it seems there is more things that can be done to oppose it than helping it

Coming from Texas Republican? This is very credible stuff.

Actually, racism isn't a "white" issue. It's a human issue. African genocides occur in present time because one race believes they're superior than other. Just be happy they're not doing that here. -_-

Okay what genocide is currently going on in Africa? There hasn't been one since 1994 with the Rwandan genocide.

I am not too sure after the DACA vote in the House. It would require 218 votes in order to move forward.

It is a human issue but from my experience. I would say that Whites are most racist.

How? I just corrected one fact. I hate it when people throw out random statistics on Africa without even checking to see if its still even relevant. It just continues to affirm the continent's misguided reputation as the heart of darkness. But if that makes me a poop face, I thank you. I have no problem with being one.

Genocides in the present are not easy to observe but they are out there if you look closely at the reports that do come out. gays are being persecuted in some African countries with the debate becoming about creating capital punishment of death for being even suspected of being gay.

The ICC (International Criminal Court) has been filing charges against Sudan's president for what they claim has been attempts of exterminating people from a particular tribal group in Darfur due to their ethnicity. They did not call it genocide because they felt there was not enough evidence, but it was enough to stick for war crimes against humanity.
