Left the United States on Nov 24th with AP for India. Returned on Jan 8th 2015. Absolutely SMOOTH process. Just make sure you have your EAD, DACA approval and AP approval letters and passport with you AT ALL TIMES WHILE TRAVELING TO AND FROM THE US. When you get to your destination, put them away safely somewhere. You do not want to lose them. Do not let anybody at the airport take them away from you overseas. The authorities at the foreign airports will check them thoroughly before letting you board the plane. They might be a little confused when you show them the approval letters BUT do not worry at all. Let them do their checking. You only speak when you are asked. And once you arrive in the United States, there will be absolutely NO PROBLEM whatsoever. I advice you not to bring any food or anything if you can avoid it. It will just add to the hassle. They might make you open your bags. Personally, I was not asked any questions by immigration here but when my sister returned with AP, they asked her all types of questions like under what type of Visa did you come in the US, what do your parents do etc etc. Just be honest and keep calm. You will be all set.

Hi!

Newdreamer first of all congrats and the best of luck on your trip. I have a question, you said you asked for a month, did you get the month or did they give less days? I am waiting for my renewal to be approved so I can send my application. My grandma is having a major surgery in August and will be in bed rest for about two months. I am going to ask for a month in hopes that I get it and can spend the whole month with her.
Thanks for reading..

Ohh yeah I am pretty sure you will get the whole month. I did request the whole month because I was not sure what dates I was going to be able to travel so that's why I requested it like that. Just in case is better to request five days earlier from the date you are leaving and five days later from the day you are coming back, that way you will travel the dates you want. ;)

I am so exciting the BIG DAY getting closer and closer !!!! I am feeling nervous but at he same time positive.

You will get more than what you ask for. I asked for about 45 days and they actually gave me over 60 days. If you want to stay for a month, you should ask for about 45 days or so and they will actually give you even more days. But it is really up to you to define the dates properly. Give yourself enough time in departing and arriving back. For example, if you plan on leaving on April 1st, you should tell them you're planning on leaving on March 21st or something. Hope you follow what I'm saying.

Please help! I am leaving very soon and I was reading tips about A.P and I found that passports need to be a least 6 months from expiration to be able to travel. Mine expires on June 20 2015. :(
Can I still travel right?

Wow that's exciting! Hope everything goes smoothly! Where are you flying out of? Did you write a letter to USCIS when you first applied for AP? I'm just wondering because my lawyer didn't have me write a letter addressed to them personally but instead I had a letter from my grandmother and also a letter from my dad who lives near her. I used the humanitarian reason as I've not seen her in over 15 years and she is not doing well health wise. She's also 91, blind and almost completely deaf. I really hope I get AP because then I can apply for AOS... the AP stamp gets rid of my EWI... Any helpful comments are appreciated!!

My experience:

Left the United States on March 26 with AP for Mexico. Returned on April 3 2015. The process was so smooth. I took everything with me, my EAD and SS, DACA approval letters, AP letters and passport but when I was going to start giving the whole package to the officer, he just took my EAD. (visitors line) He did not get my SS, oh well!! Then he took my finger prints and escorted me to the one room that everyone talks about, he even said “You feel special uh!!! Because I am escorting you” and he smiled. He was very nice to me; just make sure that when you fill out your immigration forms do it with pen and not pencil. I was in the room for almost two hours (just waiting) there were so many people. They did not ask me anything; they just stamped my AP letter and passport. I am so happy I got to see my grandma!!! I was able to bring FOOD!! ^.^but please if you are bringing bottles make sure you wrap them with plastic first then with your clothes. (One of my bottles broke) I DID IT!!
I am just curious why they stamped my passport and AP letters with DAS instead of AOS?!! It is ok anyways!!

I'm still waiting for my approval, sigh. How long did it take you to get your approval letter from the time it was received and did you expedite or do regular processing?

how does it work at the airport abroad? You show your AP to the airlines, they give you your boarding pass and that's it? do you have to go through US immigration at the airport abroad? I'm leaving next week. Please let me know
