White House divided on protecting Dreamers: report

Key White House figures divided over whether to overturn former President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy, according to Reuters.

President Trump’s advisers are split on the policy, which protects children who came to the U.S. illegally, known as “dreamers.”

The split is between Steve Bannon and Stephen Miller, who both have a more conservative stance on immigration, and White House chief of staff Reince Priebus, according to the report. Bannon is Trump’s chief strategist, while Miller serves as his policy adviser.
Trump has signaled he may not overturn DACA, telling ABC News in an interview this week that dreamers “shouldn’t be very worried” and that a policy addressing the issue would come soon.
“They shouldn't be very worried. They are here illegally. They shouldn't be very worried. I do have a big heart. We're going to take care of everybody,” he said in the interview.

“Where you have great people that are here that have done a good job, they should be far less worried. We'll be coming out with policy on that over the next period of four weeks,” he added.

Trump on Wednesday signed two executive orders on immigration. One called for the construction of wall on the U.S.-Mexico border. The other order terminated the “catch and release” policy, which sent people who crossed the border back to Mexico instead of arresting them.

The comments gave me cancer.

Those morons think we are moochers benefiting from government entitlements. I don't understand how people can be so insanely misinformed.

It's funny cuz many of those commenters are probably the ones "mooching" off government services. Rather than place blame where it ought to lie (Republican officials cutting budgets and access to those services), they'd rather blame us.

Exactly. I'm hopeful that these are just vocal minorities though. It is scary to think most right winger think like this

Yup, we're paying federal income tax, social security, medicare, and we're not collecting on any of it. I'm doing my taxes soon, and last year I had to shell out: $5000 federal, $3000 SS, and $800 for medicare.

For federal income tax I get to use highways, national security, etc. But for SS and medicare... who's to say that I'll see a dime of that money?

same. i paid around $25K last year. and to think there are people in this country who believe we're "leeches" and live off of benefits, getting some kind of amnesty when we paid for the DACA program through our application fees...i don't even know what to say. Some people will blame anyone but themselves for their problems.

Right now on Cnn ny times reporter Julie is reporting there would most likely be a potential deal with congress to address the 800,000 and an exchange do something tougher with enforcement.

Pretty much. This is the most likely scenerio and would need to pass to get republican votes.
