How did you tell your status to your significant other?
What did you say and how did they take it??
I was just wondering. Thanks! |
Re: How did you tell your status to your significant other?
I told her after Trump won.
She took it very seriously and told me everything would be fine. If the person loves you they will understand, if not then it is not the right person.. |

I told the last girl i was dating that i would go to cuba first thing when i can travel internationally. Then i explained why. She knew what daca was. Of course, she was Dominican.
I don't really care because i have a good job and make money. |

The first girl I dated I told her and her parents forced her to break up with me.
I told my current girlfriend about my status and she was ok with it, told me that she was going to help me out |

Re: How did you tell your status to your significant other?
A lot better than I expected. So I have been in a relationship with a guy for ages in south texas. Now first thing he wanted to do was visit Austin, SA, Houston something, just get out for a weekend trip. I smiled and said SURE! :)
My stomach was turning this was 2011. So fast forward to 2012 and he wants me to visit were he grew up back in the north east. I keep pushing back I was afraid. BAM Bama drops DACA. OK I say sure new years. :) Apply for DACA, don't get my EAD until after my flight so I go to the immigration officer at the airport, THATS HOW THEY ROLL in the border. He reads it gives me the ok I board. I AM SHOCKED. Fly to his parents place, spend the day, bam he finds my Mexican passport. :X I forget how or why but I wiggle out of telling him then, so drive up through a TX check point and I am so scared taking out my EAD, doesn't even notice. It goes like this for a while until finally I show him my EAD. I think he gets it he didn't. It was around finally 2013-2014 that DACA was being understood by the regular population that he was like is that what you have. I say yes. I guess it was such a long process that it wasn't as high risk as I expect he was fine, we are fine, but he told his family so ugh they know. Not great, but hey it wasn't no where near as bad as I thought it would be. :) Just pull that Band-Aid fast, but not right away make sure that person is trust worthy, DONT rush things. Good luck _________________________________ DACA, politics, food, games, DISCORD me at https://discord.gg/9mnACGy |

I told her about my status when she told me to apply to a job where citizenship was a requirement. She was sympathetic about it. It helped that she was raised from a left leaning family. We are currently married and have a child.
