Re: Bipartisan Senate group says they have immigration deal

"The White House has demanded that any immigration legislation include the "four pillars" agreed to during a January meeting: A fix for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, border security, and changes to family-based immigration and the State Department's Diversity Visa Lottery.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said the agreement would be a "two pillar" proposal dealing only with undocumented immigrants and border security.

Several other members of the working group — including Collins, Kaine and Flake — declined to discuss what was included, noting they were still working to finalize language.

"We're very optimistic about getting an agreement on a bill. Of course, it's never complete until everyone has a chance to see the language. ... [But] I believe our group has come together on an approach," Collins said.

Sen. Mike Rounds (R-S.D.) hedged slightly, saying the group is "getting closer." But asked when reporters could expect to see an agreement, added: "Today is the day."

A narrow proposal could face an uphill battle in the Senate. And even if it passes that chamber, it has been declared dead on arrival by House conservatives."

Why do they keep doing this!?

Donald Trump will not approve of this bill, they could have at least added the removal of the Visa Lottery.

Yes and EAD. Pending I-485 Supplement A and I-765 but it is not guaranteed. I could be RFE in the evidence I think may not be enough.

McCaskill: "I think all the (immigration) votes will be tomorrow, I’m pretty sure, assuming that somebody doesn’t—AKA, *cough* Rand *cough* —doesn’t object we should be able to get all the votes tomorrow."

I think she means all the votes on the amendments to see if any can get to 60.

@ChadPergram
No votes tonight in the Senate on immigration/DACA/border security. And nothing is FORMALLY locked in for Thursday. BUT….Thursday - including through the evening and perhaps into the wee hours of Friday – could get very interesting.

McConnell filed cloture on multiple amdts on immigration/DACA bill. But without an agreement, there is no way there can even be procedural votes on any of those until Friday. So, until they get a deal on how to proceed, nothing will happen yet.

oy vey!

Re: Bipartisan Senate group says they have immigration deal

Some more info about if votes are there:

Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) on what Democrats gave in order to get something in the bipartisan plan: (President Trump) gets the money (for the border wall) up front.

Durbin on if liberal Democrats could support the bipartisan plan: "I’m encouraging the left side of my caucus to support this. There are plenty who don’t like this." Durbin on if the bipartisan plan can get 60 yeas:
"We’re not there yet"

Dem DE Sen Coons on what Democrats conceded in the bipartisan bill: "It’s a very tough compromise..it makes hard concessions on family migration." Coons on if the plan has the votes: "We won’t know until we get to the floor"
