Well for myself, I'm not eligible for Dream Act unless it passes in 2010-2011.
But for you guys, I hope it passes sooner since I'll just wait for CIR to come around.

Next year is it for me!!!!!!! I already have a Bachelor's and could easily teach and live well any where in Mexico. If it doesn't happen next year I'm definitely out of here.

My parents are willing to pay for 4 Years of college so I'm guessing 4 before I start freaking out again about my Citizenship status and graduation, and getting a job and what-not. : [

Re: How long are you willingly to wait?

I'm willing to hope until 2010. Hopefully by the end of 2010 I'll have my bachelors in Accountancy and Spanish. If the US won't recognize my talents, another country will.

It's actually kinda funny because my mom and I were talking about this a few days ago. If by the time I graduate I don't have any type of legal standing in this country, my butt is hightailing it back to Mexico. From there I'll apply for residency somewhere in the UK or Europe.

The whole world is open if you guys think about it. Being perfectly fluent in English (and Spanish in my case) with an education from the greatest (albeit not the most open minded) country in the world is a gateway to a lot of awesome things. =]

You might want to check out the Cayman islands,Bermuda or Switzerland if that will be your Major. These countries are well known for their rather large banking sectors, however I would avoid trying to get Citizenship in Switzerland because of the Military conscription requirements there.;)

v On the subject of waiting for Dream act,I don't have to anymore.I had a pending application which came through recently.

Since going to another country for me is really out of the questions... (korean army... lack of BA in nursing) I am determined to wait for Dream act but if it doesn't pass in next two year I would just focus on getting married and settling down and being legalized that way.

The Swiss don't go to war but they are highly prepared for a war if they have to fight one. Other than the U.S. Air Force and the Royal Canadian Air Force, the Swiss have the most prominent Air force in the world.

The equipment might be a few years old but the pilots are highly trained and supremely capable to the point where Swiss pilots provide training services to E.U. nations' air forces.

And the Vatican recruits the Vatican Guard from the Swiss military, which is regarded as the only armed forces service that is intensely loyal to the Pope.

wait U.S. and Canada is top two and Swiss is third? What about Israel, I thought their military force was pretty intense, especially their air force...
I didn't know canada had a big air force lol, I thought they were pretty laid back in terms of military.

Wait? Hmm... about 4 more years, that's when I get my bachelors in Architecture. Then I must really look at my options, because I want to make use of the knowledge I'm gaining.

By the way, how are our odds looking for next year? Good, Bad, Decent? Despite who wins the election that is. (Hate McCain's words of "secure the border first" that will just drag the issue through the years without any solutions)

I just wish even the media would separate what the DA and CIR are. That would be a lot better. Because even in some blogs around the net, that most people bash against undocumented immigrants, there is a great number that agree with the DA so that the talent isn't wasted and we can do more for the country.

I think it would depend on the scenario, but I have to agree that the Swiss are ranked up there in terms of army strength.Their National Militia requires every Swiss citizen male between a certain age group to be trained on how to use a gun & it was even mentioned on the History channel that the U.S. created the 2nd amendment of the Constitution in part to being impressed by the Swiss system of owning guns.

Over the next 25 years the best militaries overall imo [in no specific order] look to be China,USA,UK,Russia,Germany,France & India.Conflicts in the global economy look to be based on Oil & to a lesser extent Food security.

The only way to know for sure is to wait until after the elections, but an Obama win would certainly increase the chances of passage if his current campaign is to be believed.McCain does not even know what he supports on the broader issue of Immigration publicly & could be a risk should Dream act be brought up again.

Finding a guy that will marry you is gonna be harder than to have the whole immigration system restructured

haha thanks. you know, the military requirements are the least of my worries. if the US doesn't want me as a citizen, i'll be a citizen of switzerland. i have no problem joining their military. i wanted to join the marine officer's program here, but of course i cant. in the end, it's really not my loss.

haha i wouldn't mind living in switzerland at all. dang, i've always wanted to learn italian. italy is RIGHT there ... oh man. all those lovely italian women and men ... yummy!

Until next year, I'm tired of feeling hopeless and irritated when my husband and I have financial problems; and that's with us saving up too. Besides I don't want to take anti-depressants for years or visit therapists.............I guess faith is my only option.......................College is not cheap either!

Re: How long are you willingly to wait?

none. I can't wait, I'm afraid that if I stay until I turn 18 then things will get worse, because then I'll have fewer options. so while I can, (being 17 and out of highschool), I'm leaving. I'm not a waiter, I got no patience, It's hard for me to hope,hope,hope-I can't do that, I need control in my life, I can't keep dreaming. not only that but the lawyers that I've spoken to they convinced me even more to leave. I had to talk to 4 different lawyers, I couldn't trust just one. because the first one lied to me, and I just knew he was lying to me. turns out I know more about immigration laws than him. shit I should be an immigration lawyer.Besides it's not likeI can find a real job. but hey, if the dream act passes while I'm out, it''l be fine, I won't be jealous, I'll be happy for you guys. good luck. really, good luck, even tho some of you guys can be quite bitchy at times, I know you deserve it, so, if anything, I'd be happy for you guys.

Neva !!!!!!! NEVER GIVING UP IF ITS 20 YEARS I HAVE TO WAIT, THATS EXACTLY WHAT ILL DO LOL JK NO IDK I STILL HAVE ONE MORE YEAR IN HIGH SCHOOL. OH AND YES WE DO HAVE AN OPEN WORLD IF AMERICA DOESNT WANT ME HERE IM OUT, I'M PRETTY SURE MY HOME COUNTRY OR OTHER COUNTRY WILL APPRECIATE MY TALENT.

HPGirlAna 07-19-2008 03:47 AM

Re: How long are you willingly to wait?

Well....since im still a freshman in high school....
that would be 4 years of high school...
4 years of community college/or university (with in state tuition)

which would mean that i would only wait the most 8 years. :D
If does not pass, im heading back to mexico to actually work with my college degree...or i could actually attend medical school over there :D

Re: How long are you willingly to wait?

Technically until next year... September 2009 is the deadline I have to join the Korean military... Assuming I purposely slack off in school and delay my graduation, I can push that deadline may be by another half a year but that's as far as I can push back... So 2009 seems like the year that determines my future

just don't go to the Korean army and join the club ^^

I mean they just take us in by force to the military at the airport right? I don't think there is any other harm for not showing up for the draft.

righjn 07-19-2008 01:02 PM

Re: How long are you willingly to wait?

if I dodge the draft, I will be banned from Korea until I'm 45 or so... :-( assuming I choose to stay in U.S., wait for DREAM ACT and or other amnesty bills to pass to get green card and THEN wait another 5-7 years to become an American citizen... that would be another whole decade from now... I came to the U.S. almost 10 years ago, that would mean 20 years of wait just to go visit my homeland to see family and friends? I think I've had enough of this, I would rather just go to Korea, do my service for my homeland, and get a job there with my American university diploma...
not to mention I can't get any decent job in U.S. after I graduate anyways... my friends who graduated are working basic cash jobs with their BA and BS degrees... no offense to anyone but that's type of job any random people off the street can get, all their education is going into absolute waste... I'm not willing to live like that.

Re: How long are you willingly to wait?

For me, 2009 maybe the deciding year.. I already have a BS in Aero Engineering and pursuing MS in Industrial and Systems Engr. But honestly, I am fu*&ing tired of school and would not want to continue if I have the option. So I might just pack my bags next year if I really don't want to continue. Besides, my homeland, (Hong Kong) China, have plenty of jobs for Aero Engineers.

I've been waiting for 10 years, and I am seriously tired. I sincerely wish hope is just around the corner.

Re: How long are you willingly to wait?

Till it passes. I have been here since I was 2, so leaving would be tough especially since I live in Houston which is pretty good to immigrants.

I want to become a neurologist, and it wont be easy to go somewhere and fulfill their requirements for school just to be a doctor when I am very close now.
