Would You Do it?
If the government says to you, "You can be granted an SSN and permission to travel from state-to-state, work legally, drive legally, and get financial loans [student, house, etc.] but you cannot ever leave the country," would you accept the terms?

Re: Would You Do it?
A simple US EAD[work permit] would cover most of the above since most work permits usually say not valid for re-entry.There are also some people who are currently in the country like that,in which they are stateless or have no citizenship. There was an article a while back that involved a former naturalized US citizen who is now stateless but he has to check in with Customs enforcement every year for the rest of his life & is given a work permit to help himself. He also can never leave the United States because he is stateless & neither the U.S. or his former country are willing to re-instate his citizenship because he renounced it upon acquisition of gaining U.S. citizenship.
Heh,sorry for the rant but I'd have to say no if the "you cannot ever leave the country" is permanent. |

Re: Would You Do it?
I would say no...because I want to be a citizen ( or permanent resident) so i dont get to have any restrictions in my life. I do want to visit other countries..
But if it comes down to it someday, i'll probably end up accepting... |
Re: Would You Do it?
Yes I would accept the terms, they can have my left nut if they want that too.
|
Re: Would You Do it?
that's a hell no to me.
There is just so much more out there besides this country. I will not give up an entire forest for one tree. |

It would suck, no doubt, but citizenship in the country you love is absolute priority. |
Re: Would You Do it?
I dont think I would do it.
I love this country to death but I want to see other places too. I dont want to feel trapped anymore. |
Re: Would You Do it?
HELL FUGGIN' NO. the US isn't the only place in this world i want to see.
|
Re: Would You Do it?
i need both my nuts so thats a no.
|
Re: Would You Do it?
Yeah, of course I'd do it. I think all Dreamers want to stay in this country right... If it comes to never leaving the US again, yes, I will gladly take the offer. I'd just work my up in government and find a job that takes me overseas and they'll have to let me leave. =D

Re: Would You Do it?
I'd do it in a heartbeat but am keeping both my nuts... :-P
|
Re: Would You Do it?
No way. Being forced to stay in a country, I believe that's taking away a basic human right.
|
Re: Would You Do it?
so basically an "unrestricted" life in a Golden Cage.
No thanks, the world is a big place. Although i might be tempted to say yes, stay 10 years make millions THEN leave ?? |
Re: Would You Do it?
Hell NO!!!
|
Re: Would You Do it?
HELL NO!
if im going to dream up of being a citizen im not going to put restrictions on it. ima be a citizen with all the rights of a citizen and im not going to come up with these scenarios... |
Re: Would You Do it?
Yeah, I would. As much as I want to travel and see the world. I also don't want to be banished from my homeland (the U.S.). To come to America you have to leave something behind and I think this is tame compared to what most people must leave behind.
|
Re: Would You Do it?
Hell no.
I'd rather leave the country and face the ten year ban than to be stuck here indefinitely. Yes, I'd be able to do everything that I wanted to do within the U.S., but I'd like to travel and work overseas. |
Re: Would You Do it?
you know, i dont think i'd do it. the world is mighty vast place ... and if the united states doesnt want me, then another country will.
|
Re: Would You Do it?
Nope... by the way isn't this supposed to be the "land of the free"? I mean it just happens to be in the national anthem... ;)
|
Re: Would You Do it?
Of course I would do it...
...and remember, no one is forcing anyone to do anything. |
