There he is Dicky Durbin...a massive deal is on the horizon for Dreamers...A compromise will be reached at the eleventh hour!

I'm not sure if we should be concern or optimistic. A lot of talk about something has to be done during the lame duck, but we haven't seen or heard a single word of what the context of that will look like. Unless they are hard at work behind the scenes trying to find a compromise or all this is just political theater again and nothing is really happening.

Durbin @ 12:42:

Quote:

"I've heard many Rebuplican colleagues say they won't help DACA receipients or even talk about immigration until we stop so called flow of immigrants and asylum speakers at the southern border. Look, every Democrat in the Senate agrees we need an orderly process at our border, but simply closing the borders to families fleeing violence is not a simple or practical or worthwhile solution."
Doesn't sound Dems want to give into Republican demands although he does go on about how much they are doing at the border already and try to find more reasonable common ground.

In my opinion, this sounds like they don't want to play ball and nothing is going to happen, much less than 3 weeks... It will be déjà vu if they quickly pass some shit in the House (with the hag Pelosi still at the wheel) at the last minute for theatrics.

That’s what I think too. Speeches are great but, where is the legislation?

If anything passes it will probably be in the omnibus along with everything else that needs to pass (debt ceiling) so it gets lost in the year-end noise.

It could be posturing to get an advantage in negotiation. It's not really up to him what gets brought to the floor.

Ugh, show us something. An amendment, a bill, anything!

“We had a really good meeting. Laid out the challenges that we’re all collectively facing here. I think there’s widespread agreement that we’d be better off with an omnibus than a [continuing resolution] but there are some significant hurdles to get over to do that,” McConnell told reporters after meeting with President Biden and congressional leaders at the White House.

He said that “for myself and I think the majority of my conference, defense and Ukraine” funding are “at the top of the list” of priorities.

But he said Democrats’ request for increased non-defense discretionary spending is a “sticking point.

Yeah agreed. But I also think that not pushing for citizenship show that Dems are negotiating seriously because the issue of citizenship has caused many bills to collapse. I am 100% ok with not getting citizenship if it means we get stronger protections.

The fact that Daca is not in the news could actually work in our favor. It gives us cover from the immigration hawks and public opinion who will try to kill any bill. I like the idea of getting a deal and bill and trying to sneak it through

dont even care if its green card or citizenship.

We obviously all want path to citizenship but this is the only way that it isnt DOA.
Add travel and its icing on cake.

But yea border security plus permanent DACA is the way

Same here. At this point it is about making it to 2025 without getting the rug pulled from under us.

Democratic Senators obtained Republican votes for this
https://twitter.com/nytimes/status/1597734672146092039
'Breaking News: The Senate passed landmark bipartisan legislation to mandate federal recognition for same-sex marriages. The bill is expected to clear the House.'

Those R senators can support hard-working immigrants, children, and families, no?

Re: Durbin: Congress Must Act in the Lame Duck Session to Protect Dreamers

I don't think negotiating votes for Dreamers, farmworkers, or even an essential workers legalization is harder than same-sex marriage given the political divide in the country.

At this point it should be clear that we are last in the list of priorities. Last real effort was in 2010. Other than that it’s just for speeches and headlines. No one is interested in compromise like how they manage to do it in their other bills.

You do know Dick Durbin is just 1 senator, right? He’s not some voodoo magician that they can have all his senators vote yes on dream act.

I for one is appreciative of Dick Durbin for continously fighting for us. He’s really the only one. F the Democrats and Republicans.

Twelve Senate Republicans on Tuesday supported final approval of a bill securing federal protections for same-sex marriage, allowing it to surpass the 60-vote threshold needed for passage.

The Republicans in the upper chamber who backed the bill were Sens. Susan Collins (Maine), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), Rob Portman (Ohio), Thom Tillis (N.C.), Mitt Romney (Utah), Roy Blunt (Mo.), Cynthia Lummis (Wyo.), Richard Burr (N.C.), Shelley Moore Capito (W.Va.), Dan Sullivan (Alaska), Joni Ernst (Iowa) and Todd Young (Ind.).

Could we get these 12 votes for DACA?

Re: Durbin: Congress Must Act in the Lame Duck Session to Protect Dreamers

I think we could get a Yay vote from:

*Susan Collins
*Lisa Murkowski
*Mitt Romney
*Thom Tillis
*Joni Ernst
*Roy Blunt

They are working on stuff in the background according to some of the new articles, it is better to keep it quiet until it's ready. It paints less of a target

Bridge Act. Keep the status quo. Kick the can down the road. Nothing anyone can call "amnesty for illegals".

At least something will pass and the 30+ year deadlock will finally break. Something needs to give or there will never be any movement. I am fine with a small change as long as we are safe

last REAL effort was when Trump tried to get the wall, we were insanely close but our greatest enemies (democrats and United We Dream) bįchted and moaned about legalization for all or nothing bullshīt.
