Permanent Resident after 23 years.... :)

Folks....after 23 years up in this muthafucka, I've become a permanent resident. Been dreaming of this day since day one.

Long story short, got married in July 2022. Applied for AOS March 7th 2023, and i just checked my account today April 26th and my I-485 just got approved.

Thank you all for being there to support one another during all these years.

Congratulations! I’m applying to AOS soon. I can’t imagine how you’re feeling but it’s definitely to celebrate all the good and bad days that brought you to this point.

Awesome! That is so fast! Did they ask for an interview? What do you suggest for people who are filing?

No interview, right now is a good time to do AOS because a lot of people are getting their interviews waived.
Send as much evidence of bona fide marriage as you can.
If you're able to, send your Medicals with the initial application to avoid delays.
Also, if you've been working legally for about 10 years you probably qualify for a sponsor waiver which is what i did, form I-864W.

Such great news! congratulations!!
It took me 21 years.
By the way is your spouse a US citizen or permanent resident? and in what state do you live? My husband's case has been in the Atlanta field office for a while.

Enjoy your freedom. It's good to be free from this bs.
I wish the best to you and your family!

No interview, they received my package on March 7th, on March 22nd they sent me an RFE for my medicals.

On March 31st they received my answer to the RFE (my medicals) On April 26th they approved my I-485.

On April 28th they delivered my Green card.

does anyone know why they are waiving interviews?

No, I sent copy of lease, 2 affidavits from friends, lots of pics, i think a couple copies of some airplane tickets from our vacations.

But then again, if you got on reddit you'll see posts from people who have submitted way more stuff amd they get an RFE for more info.

Also you'll see posts from people who have submitted their application in 2021 and it's still pending.

So nothing makes sense honestly.

I think they're overloaded with cases and are trying to clear the backlog. Lots of people are getting their interviews waived.

You can see it on here

About to submit my removal of conditions, I expect it to take forever and plan to become a citizen next year while it’s in process

Congrats! Even tho I have a GC, I do remember THAT notification when I woke up on my phone that I was approved. I could not believe it, I thought it was a dream! Even to this day I cannot believe it since I got it in 2019. I am now waiting to apply for USC in November.

Go celebrate!

Interview waived? You are kidding me? Only in certain circumstances it is waived. Why was your not done? You did AOS through Marriage so what is this sponsor waiver about?

My guess they realized during the pandemic that interviewing all the marriage cases is just Kabuki theater.

My interview was waived back in 2020. Initially it was scheduled for March 2020 but Covid happened and my interview was canceled. Then they sent me an RFE in July 2020, I responded by sept 2020 and I got my GC in October 2020.

Re: Permanent Resident after 23 years.... :)

Yup, there's an entire thread on Reddit where ppl were getting their green cards through marriage without interviews. Ppl who filed in '22 and '23 were also getting their gc's approved faster than those who filed in '20, '21 and earlier. A lot of expedition requests are also being granted so USCIS is definetly moving but they're giving priority to the recent filers over the older ones which makes no sense.

I listened to a video by a lawyer explaining that USCIS has changed the way they process AOS in hopes to get through applications more quickly. So there's two streams of applications now - 'old stream' and the 'new stream'. Those who applied in 2021 and 2022 started in the old stream, so USCIS is keeping them in the old process. Those who applied 2023 are in the new stream, which is why many of those in 2023 are getting approved before those in 2022. It's not fair, but at least it's an explanation.

You have to take a civic test for these, no idea how they'd waive that one. They could do it remotely but you still have to go before a federal judge to get sworn in.

Good luck dude, for all our differences and me being annoyed with your incessant "what about 31+ yr olds" over the years, I hope this bullshit will resolve for every single one of us one way or another, and we'll be a block of pissed off voters.

I am praying for you all but hey at least you can work and drive. What else can you ask for? Eventually one of these years CIR will pass.

Security, I am tired of having to watch every election and court decision like a hawk and worry whether my right to work and drive will get rescinded by a less dumb Republican. Like the only thing that saved through Trump is the fact that he's a mouthbreathing moron and Sessions is a huge racist. If they were to do it properly and go through the APA comment period we'd be fucked.

That being said, I don't expect CIR to pass, I've been working on my own stuff and filed my I-485 yesterday.

DACA has enough security as long as you don't commit a crime. You don't need to focus on news so much. Use that energy to earn money and work on your health. Congrats on filing I-485! That is huge! Keep us updated on your process. How are you adjusting?

Yeah, filed I-360 back in 2018, was approved in 2020, and just recently I managed to get my proceedings dismissed and file I-485, so I'm finally on the straight road to being a permanent resident.
