Noww i know its illegal but there is a time when we have to drive

Im 19yrs old. Ive been scared shitless to drive. But the older i get. The more it becomes a requirement. Im thinking about getting a car and registering it on my brothers name..does anyone out there do it?..

First of all I wouldn't recommend it, not only is it illegal but you never know if it will be looked down upon when "Moral Character" is discussed (which is kind of a big deal with immigration). However, I do understand that some people cant live life without driving in certain towns, so if you're going to do it, be SUPER CAREFUL because you definitely don't need any negative attention on yourself when you're trying to fly under the radar. But again, here on DAP we don't exactly commend those types of actions. I noticed it's your first post too, Welcome! and good luck.

P.S. But if an Illegal driving experience story is what you're looking for, PM our friend Juang lol

Sacramento eh.

Yeah they'll probably arrest you for driving without a license, and impound the car.

Re: Driving While illegal

got caught once at a DUI/DL check point last year, it was New Years eve, but i had to work that day so that's why i was driving.

The cop was actually pretty nice, i showed him my expired beginners permit, DL from my home country, insurance and registration. He gave me a $300 ticket and let me go.

I think it all depends on what kind of cop stops you and your state laws regarding driving without DL.

If you are in Sacramento/// (like 1.5 hours away from here)
you'll probably just get your car impounded...

Don't forget the bike!

Re: Driving While illegal

If you have some sort of ID/permit like Alex's story, you'll probably have more leverage for a ticket.

However, knowing CA cops, having no operator license whatsoever will be an arrest, especially if they're having a slow day.

Re: Driving While illegal

its diff for every town really. if you've been living at a city for 2-3 yrs, im hoping u observe cops, and how they are, they're tendencies, especially in ur parts of the neighborhood. i know for a fact where i live, alot of ppl drive illegally, b/c cops have "bigger fish to fry" so to speak. drug busts/ stolen cars/ domestic violence that kinda stuff/ and u should never speed as well. but ur right, u def never know when cops pull u over. there are also those occasional "random" checks, for drunk drivers, there usually in the same place where i live, so i try to avoid them. overall just try to be observant, and learn how ur city works .

Re: Driving While illegal

I would not risk it. If a cop stops you or you make a mistake, things can get scary real fast. When you get to that point, you'll wish that you never drove. I would stick with the metro.

Re: Driving While illegal

well where i am from like ed said they dont really care about unlicensed drivers usually they only stop people around here if they suspect you of being a gang member or deal drugs and if you dont have license when they pull you over they usually respond with get the fuck outta here wasting our time crap . but of course if you disobey traffic laws you're bound to get stopped sooner or later whether you're legal or illegal. now i do get scared when i go driving to the suburbs but i tend to drive very careful even though my license is still valid for a couple weeks then i am screwed. anyways my cousin who by the way is a u.s citizen but is a little to young for a license got pulled over and all they gave him was a ticket i think it was $120 and $200 drivers responsibilty fee.

so its up to what area you live and the attitude cops have toward unlicensed drivers.

if you have been pulled over. tell us your story..

The is nothing to fear, but fear itself.

Cops can sence fear, just like women can sence insecurity in a guy in a second.

So my advice is to not drive until you're not afraid of being pulled over or else you're going to attract attention you don't want.

I have been driving for some years now and I have never been pulled over. The only time I was stop and required to talk to a cop was when there was an accident in a motorcycle club I used to be part of.

This stupid guy who was suppost to be riding next to me (when you ride in a motorcycle group, there's two bikes side by side in the lane) was riding too close to the bike in front of us. So in an intersection where we had the green line, we were force to stop abruptly because of an ambulance/police convoy with the sirens going off and shit. So, I was able to stop, but the stupid moron that was suppost to be riding next to me was 25 feet ahead, and he couldnt stop and he ran into the bike in front of him and then felt to the floor. The bike felt on top of his leg and broke it in a second.

To make a long story short, when I was talking to the cop about the accident he asked me if I had a license...I said "I can't lie to you, I don't have one" while looking him in the eyes.

He just smiled and kept on asking me questions about the accident. I just pretty much told him that it had been the guy's fault for riding too close to the bike in front of him. After it was over, he thanked me for sticking around and help. Some of the members flet the scene when they saw what had happened. I don't know if they were driving without a license, or something else, but they were afraid of the cops.

After that, I never came back to ride with the group. I'm not going to risk loosing my bike because of a moron that doesn't even know how to ride properly.

There is a difference between "have to", and "it'd be nice to", yet I don't think there a rule of thumb to be applied there. We all choose not to do certain things, just to be safe, yet we all take certain risks out of necessity or out of the need to do things that everybody else gets to do. It boils down to how much you value your safety over your rights, or vice versa.

Hi, this is one of my first posts... I wouldn't recommend illegally driving. I know someone who was doing that and got deported for it. It's really risky, I'm sure the transportation in the city you're living in can't be that bad, try to take a bus or something. It might even be cheaper seeing as how much gas costs.

I work in the legal area here in CA, and Driving with out a DL is an infraction or if the cop wants to be a jerk off it will be a Misdemeanor. "Moral Character" Applies mostly to felonies (Domestic violence, theft, embezzlement, using false identification/"papers", drug charges, violent crimes, gang affiliation) and Border line Misdemeanors (Misd. Domestic violence, Misd. DUI, Misd. Burglary ect.) Traffic violation that do not include DUI’S or Reckless driving with injury don’t apply. An infraction is not discussed when they bring up your moral character, b/c you can get an infraction for playing your music too loud.

I'm not encouraging you to drive illegally but for some of us its a NECESSITY I know I say this all the time but if you are going to drive w/out a license please get some insurance. Here in CA you can get insurance even if you don’t have a DL. It is pricy but its totally worth it if you get in to a car accident, or if you or the other party are injured. And that insurance really works. Also if you ever get pulled over you'll only get charged with driving w/o a license if you have insurance instead of driving w/o a license and driving w/o insurance, if you don’t.

If you live in CA and need the numbers to isurance carriers that provide ins. you can pm me.

Ive been driving without a liscense now for about 4 months n havent had any trouble with getting pulled over... i go the speed limit, i follow every road sign n try to stay away from cops as much as i can... it also helps that i do the sign of the cross everytime before i start driving... n if u ever get pulled over be honest! Dont Lie!!! only makes it worse i was training to become a cop in high school n the worse thing u can do is not be honest with the officer. im just really careful because my job requires me to drive all around my city... im a computer Tech for some company!

dont be scared.. unless youre a bad driver... in ca they just leave you on foot and you get a ticket. (yes personal experience)
driving is necessary. if you know how to drive, do it. DO NOT be scared
theres no reason to be. (unless cops can refer you to ice) but still you know..?

Re: Driving While illegal

I agree that most girls will melt for a nice car or motorcycle, and I know that because I own one. But to be honest, a girl that is not willing ride on whatever you have, even if it is just a bike or the bus, its NOT worth seeing once more. She must like YOU, not your VEHICLE.

When I first meet girls and set up a first date, I show up in my 150cc scooter, very tiny. And if they get on it without any hesitation and everything goes well from then on, on the second date I show up in my "nice" bike. A 650cc Suzuki Savage Motorcycle, very nice, I've been told.

It's kind of a test I put girls through. Of course, every girl is diffenrent, just like every guy. I'm the kind of guy that wants a girl that likes me, and not my bike.

BACK TO TOPIC ON HAND =]

i'm not going to be able to renew my license as of december 20something, my 21st b'day =[ i'm scared to drive illegally; however, i know i must, which is why i was reading this thread in the first place. luckily for me, i spend 8 months of my life away at school where i get to ride the school buses and the city buses for free. i get nervous because at home there are no buses as convenient as the ones here at school and the cops are such bitches. i know alex got a nice cop, but i know i'm not gonna fare as well. i haven't lost my license yet, but i'm sooooo nervous. i can't eat, i can't sleep. i simply dont know how some of you do it ... i'm scared shitless.

hmm what state are you in? Because in California only thing happens is that they impound your car. I don't drive illegally but I do know a friend who drives with a Washington Permit in California lol. He got pulled over twice because of his car (loud muffler). They let him go both times, he just got extremely lucky. But the worst thing that happens is maybe a ticket and they take your car away, no deportation or anything.

Re: Driving While illegal

ha i remember when i got pulled over, just turned 18, one of my tail lights was out, he pulled me over, asked to see my license and i was like oh dont have one, and hes like why are u driving im like my dad is sick and i had to get to the place i was going, so he told me that he could take me to jail right then but he actually just called my parents to come pick me up, he asked my parents why i didnt have a DL and they said I was in process, because like my mom says honestly its none of their business, so then i was given a court date, went to court, got 6 months probation paying a 100 dollars for those 6 months, and a 29 delayed jail sentence, meaning that if i got in trouble with in the probation period i would be sent to jail for 29 days, and when they asked me my social at the place im like oh im in process i can give u my tin number and their like okidokie,

so yea scary stuff,

but i kept driving with out a DL for those 6 months (not smart but i had to do what i had to do) and yea,

i drove i think about 1 1/2 years with out a DL before i got caught, but now i have one so its such a relieve,

it all depends on your driving skills, and how well u know the cops in your city, whenever you see a cop GO THE OTHER WAY!

everyone have an awesome day
