Dick Durbin: It's unlikely we'll reach a DACA deal, but 'I don't see a government shu

Quote:

Sen. Dick Durbin said Sunday senators are unlikely to reach an immigration deal before government funding expires later this week, and there won’t be another partial government shutdown over the issue.

“There is not likely to be a DACA deal, though we're working every single day on telephone calls and person to person to try to reach this bipartisan agreement,” said Durbin, D-Ill., the second-ranked Democrat, in an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union." "I don't see a government shutdown coming.”
Quote:

We're making real progress,” Durbin said. “I want to salute the moderates in both the Republicans' and Democratic caucuses in the Senate. I do see a promise by Sen. McConnell to finally bring this critical issue that effects the lives of hundreds of thousands of people in America, finally bringing it to a full debate in the Senate. That's what we were looking for when there was a shutdown. We have achieved that goal. We're moving forward.”

Doesn’t surprise me. When the Democratic leadership comes out and say “Dreamers can’t take the whole stage”, then that’s a sign of brace yourselves.

I'll say it once again, they will likely wait until the very last minute before March 5 and pass some sort of BRIDGE Act legislation.

Quote:

A growing number of Senate Republicans are backing a scaled-back plan that would include only a DACA fix and a border security package — though the details of such an agreement would still need to be sketched out.

Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), the No. 3 Senate Republican, said the idea “may be the best we can hope for.”

Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) also predicted that an agreement that is “much smaller than what the president is going for” is where Congress will end up.

“It’s probably going to be some sort of legal status for DACA recipients that gives them the permanence of legal status and then

the border security,” Capito told MetroNews's “Talkline.”

March 5 is really our true deadline.

At this point, I have already accepted that DACA deal won't be reached. I don't check DAP as often now and I feel much less pressure.

i dont think it will be BRIDGE, it will be something permanent but only for the DACA population though.

i wouldnt really call March 5 the true deadline..

Our true deadline is now 2020 when we will be in the same predicament again. They will stall until then for the general elections lol
