DACA’s Advance Parole Applications Fund

Given the great success of our recent advocacy efforts to restore DACA’s Advance Parole in Washington, D.C., we are pleased to announce that the CMSC is launching an Advance Parole Application Fund Drive for DACA recipients that have urgent reasons to apply for humanitarian Advance Parole, to tend to loved ones suffering from serious illness but cannot afford to pay the $575 application fee.

Consequently, we are raising funds to allow Dreamers to apply for Advance Parole, although the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) is currently denying this benefit, to pressure them and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to follow the court orders that reinstated DACA and to increase the awareness of congress about the humanitarian cases and real-life stories behind Dreamer’s need for Advance Parole.

Since 2012, DACA recipients have been able to apply for an Advance Parole travel authorization to pursue humanitarian, educational and employment opportunities abroad. But on Sept. 5, 2017 the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) suspended the approval of Advance Parole for DACA recipients, after the Trump Administration ordered to rescind the DACA program.

Even though court orders have ruled continuation of the DACA program since January 2018, DHS has denied the ability for DACA recipients to apply for Advance Parole since September 5, 2017. As a result of this administrative practice, DACA recipients have been unable to be with their loved ones during critical moments, and/or to take advantage of important educational and employment opportunities abroad.

We currently have at least 25 Dreamers that will apply this month and our goal is to offer the $575 fee and our staff assistance to up to 50 Dreamers during the month of July 2019.

We also plan to offer this program to Dreamers that need to pursue employment opportunities that require foreign travel, and we recently provided assistance to 3 Dreamers that need expedited Advance Parole approval, in order to participate in graduate educational programs abroad this fall.

We especially want to support those DACA recipients who have very urgent humanitarian needs to be able to unite with their family members in critical times of hardship.

Thus, our fundraising goal for this phase of our National Campaign to Restore DACA’s Advance Parole is $50,000 to cover the AP application fee, our staff assistance and handling fees to cover the total cost of $1,000 per DACA recipient for 50 Dreamers to secure expedited approval of their applications.

However, the CMSC staff will be able to assist with the preparation of the Advance Parole application and filing fees, depending on the amount of funding that we are able to raise.

Given our 5 years of experience taking Dreamers to study abroad in Mexico, we will also provide guidance and assistance obtaining the necessary supporting documents for each application and their congressional letters of support.

The California-Mexico Studies Center (CMSC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose mission is to research, develop, promote, and establish policies and programs between higher educational institutions and cultural organizations that will enhance the teaching, mobility and exchange of faculty, students, and professionals between California and the U.S. with Mexico and other nations in the Western Hemisphere.

I don't know but this is still an effort I consider a waste of time. Should use that money to lobby elected officals rather. TEHYYYY LOVE MONEY!

Not a chance, these are fees meant to process the application. One should never expect a return of fees for the processing of any application with USCIS.

I think it’s worth a shot since all other organizations are only raising funds for renewals. I rather donate to an organization that is actually trying to accomplish something than paying for someone’s renewal which they had 2yearsro sabe up for

Same logic: people can save up for AP. It costs a fee hundred dollars... they can borrow from friends and family.
