Rescind ITIN after getting a SSN.

Fellas, I'm not sure if this article is current but it does show how to rescind your ITIN after we receive our SSNs. My only concern is, will I be able to maintain the credit that I've built using my ITIN after getting the SSN? Anybody familiar on this topic, please provide your feedback. This is very important stuff if we're looking to get loans, cars etc in the future.

Yes it says it on the bottom. You need to call the three major credit agencies.

In relation to this what about those that have 'not valid for work authorization' SSN number? Do we keep that same SSN number or get a new one? If we get a new one can we also transfer credit that's been built?

I assume you would keep the same number but get a new card that says "with permission" or something alone those lines. It wouldn't make sense to generate a new number when you already have one.

Yes, you are right. I just looked it up online and it appears you get a new card, but same number.

I believe that you get to keep your own. The "not valid for work authorization" sign will be removed.

Yes, ITINs and SSN# can be merged. Obviously you will get a new number as TINs can only begin with a 9, and SSN# only go up to 7XX-XX-XXXX (and 8 in some cases but rather uncommon, as they only began to be used in 2011).

All other valid SSNs with restriction will most likely be kept the same, as these are valid ID numbers and up until E-verify they were largely indistinguishable from those without any restrictions.

You only keep the number, the Social Security card will be taken away and a new one issued w/ the same number via mail but 'Valid with DHS authorization'.

I also think it is a good idea that Dreamers approved with an EAD should carry a certified Birth certificate to SSA when applying for their SSN.This is just in case there is an issue with someone having the exact same First AND Last name when first applying and it is likely with a population over 300 million. It also would allow you to have your entire name in the system if you have more than 1 middle name!

The biggest benefit now to all Dreamers who have an ITIN is that they will now have the payments they have made onto their Social Security card and have not worked in vain.

You're most likely keep the same one just get a new card "Not valid for employment without DHS authorization" and a i-766 work permit card. When/if you apply for work you'll use the two of them.

I probably won't even bother merging the two. Only thing my ITIN was used for was by my parents to file taxes.
