traveling with GC
My mother received her Green Card 2 months back after her immigration case ended up in removal proceedings (long story). She is planning to travel back to our home country for 4 weeks very soon to see her ailing mother. Since none of my family members have traveled outside the US in more than a decade, I am a little worried if she needs to take some special documents with her as she travels. She’s going directly to our home country with a short layover in another country (about 2 hours). She doesn’t have a visa for this other country so will stay at the airport during her layover. She will carry her passport, greencard and greencard approval notice on her. Anything else she should be careful about or additional documents she should bring with her?

You didn’t provide a country of origin but since she is flying I would recommend a valid passport from country of origin plus green card that’s all. For example if flying into Mexico with green card you will also need a Mexican passport otherwise they could detain you or fine you. Going to Mexico via car does not require passport (recently went to Mexico).

According to visahq (visa check website), your mother (Pakistani National) won’t need a transit visa for Qatar since she has an airline ticket outward within 24 hours of arriving. You could double check with the Qatari embassy.
