How do i justify working under the table on resume

Hey dreamers,

Before i was approved for DACA in 2012, i worked as a general manager for a couple of businesses for 4 years. I am applying for positions now, and emitting these 4 years puts me at a disadvantage of having less experience than other candidates. The type of jobs i am applying for will do a social security trace that shows when my social was issued. How do i justify working there? Outright tell them it was under the table? Claim it to be volunteer since i was illegal? Could the businesses get in trouble if i do tell them i was working under the table there?

Thanks

There is no such thing as a social security trace that shows when you got your social. They may use it to verify that that number was used at the previous jobs. But that has nothing to do. If they ask, tell them you didn't have one until then. They can still verify your experience by contacting references and the companies.

If i'm not mistaken, based on my research as well as talking to a few friends who got hired, the SSN issue date ( i believe year only) was shown. Here is an random example i found online

But now that i think about it more, i'm sure a majority of companies probably get this SSN trace done through a third party, which is more concerned about my identity matching with the social rather than when it was issued. Either way, i'm thinking to just put it down on my resume, and if they ask, ill just tell them the truth. Worse thing that happens is i get denied for the position.

Thanks for your input.

Re: How do i justify working under the table on resume

I went through a third party background check for a job and I was contacted by my employer that the third party background check company needed me to verify my social security number. I ended up verifying it by phone with my employer who then relayed the number again to the background check folks. I was told that the reason why they were asking was because social security numbers issued during and after 2012 sometimes are difficult to verify/trace, so they had to check with me to make sure. They did see that I had a credit history but it raised enough of a flag to get their attention but they did not make a big deal about it at all. It was all just for confirmation/verification purposes. Hope this helps.

All one can do is be honest with one's employment history. And yes, background investigations do show the date a SSN was issued. Hospitals do this, and I'm sure other industries do as well.
