Won a contest for free tickets for Cirque de Soleil

Here in Houston there was a contest for Telemundo to win 4 tickets to watch Cirque de Soleil next week. All I needed to be was..

18 or older ✔️

Resident or Citizen ✖️

Still I submitted because maybe I thought DACA would be good enough and what were the chances I was going to win anyway. Well they called me earlier today and told me I won and that I needed to come present a valid drivers license and residency card. I was too nervous to say I had lied and only had DACA. I’ll call back in a bit and confess and tell them to give the tickets to someone else.

It’s sad because these tickets were going to my aunt, cousin and uncle who’d have a rough 2018. We lost my other aunt last year to cancer and I wanted to distract them with something new and fun. It’s little things like this that remind me that even with DACA protection I will always be a second rate citizen of this country that I’ve lived my whole life in.

technically we are residents

DACA Recipients are considered Non-Permanent Residents.

Contests or sweepstakes usually have language that says "open to U.S. residents" and legally you qualify because you live in the U.S and have a valid ID. I'd say just give them your ID and EAD and see what happens. They may have asked for "residency card" because I assume they are buying your airplane tickets and will need another form of government ID.

Is it anything like the contest here https://static01.cirquedusoleil.com/...962.1549397603

I called, they said I couldn’t pick up the tickets since I was a DACA recepient but that I could bring someone who was a citizen to pick them up. So my cousin will pick up the tickets for me. Glad this was taken care of but it was just another reminder on things I can’t do myself.

Why do they need that? Because the value of the tickets is more than $600 so they would have to 1099 you?

You don’t even need to be legal to get a 1099 lol

Well if you fill out a W9 form, you have to be.
