What was 2010 like

Does anyone remember what 2010 was like? The momentum, the support, and the enthusiasm back then. How does it compare to now?

Two main differences: Dems had control of the government entirely and this was pre-DACA. The second being the most important as no we're completely out of the shadows with jobs, debt, mortgages, etc.

having DACA established from 2012-2017 is a huge game changer at this point. there is strong bipartisan support!

Lol, that was the first time I heard about it. But I don’t recall it been this much discussed anywhere. But I can’t remember it clearly.

The momentum was nowhere near what it is this time around. Having lived through that failure is what I assume makes me feel pessimistic this time around. I do hope we get a solution.

I had really hopes back then. I was more actively involved going
To rallies and calling up reps, telling my USC friends to do the same. Then nothing

Broke my heart but I healed

What's different now than 2010 and previous DA bills is that over time thru DACA, the American public has had a chance to really see and understand who Dreamers are and how much they benefit the country. All the pressure we have been putting and the stories Dreamers have been sharing since 2013 has worked and led to all the support we see today.

I realize it sounds cliché but I really do think the momentum we see this time wasn't there before.

It's harder to push us back in to the shadows - esp when there is tangible evidence of our contributions to our communities and the country. The benefits are just too hard to ignore.

Another difference between now and 2010 is that some Republicans like Lindsey Graham are supporting the DREAM Act now because a Republican is president. Whereas in 2010, they went against their own principles because they didn't want to hand Obama a win on immigration or in anything, really.

It's so political, it's disgusting. Many Republicans were willing to keep 1 million kids in the shadow just because they don't want to hand someone a win.
