the Birthright Citizenship Act of 2009 would end the process of granting automatic birthright citizenship to the babies born in the United States to illegal aliens.

DETAILS: Referred to as "anchor babies," these children born in the United States are one of the most prominent factors of excessive population expansion and illegal immigration. In its Spring 2005 edition, the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons reported that "between 300,000 and 350,000 anchor babies annually become citizens… " These staggering figures tell only part of the story. Birthright citizenship incentivices illegal immigration by making anchor babies eligible to sponsor their illegal alien mothers and other relatives once they turn 21. In addition, at present, there is no formal policy that forbids DHS from deporting the illegal alien parents of a child born in the U.S. Yet in most cases, immigration officials habitually choose not to initiate removal proceedings, allowing the parents to remain in the U.S. illegally. Perhaps most starkly, anchor babies additionally draw benefits and services from taxpayer dollars. As the Journal article notes, "Anchor babies are citizens, and instantly qualify for public welfare aid… Not only can the baby serve as an "anchor" to pull a large number of extended family members into the country, but they also can rely on the public services and benefits of the United States.

this is a very interesting article. and please don't bash anyone, argue respectfully. IF this Birthright Citizenship Act passes, and CIR fails, these "anchor" babies will be the new Dream Act student generation. Here's the deal. I feel soo much sympathy for these little kids who did nothing wrong and go to school just like their peers. the statistics didn't come from NumbersUSA or Alicrap; they came from a legitimate independent source. 300,000+ kids born in the U.S. every year from illegal parents; its over the top.

I hope this act passes, and i hope CIR passes at the same time, i hope the border is enforced; otherwise this illegal immigration problem will never stop. Not to be an ass, but I've been to hospitals, and they are filled with these kids. let's not deny the fact that all those hospital visits aren't paid by the parent. Also, I would have to agree with the fact that, yes these kids will bring their parents here once they are older. some of us tend to abuse the system and bring in brother, sisters, parents, etc. An European friend of mine brought hes parents, then hes parents brought the other kids, then the kids brought the wives, then the wives brought the siblings, then the siblings brought THEIR wives.. and it goes around in circles. lets be realistic here and cut the bs. the way i see it, they will cut legal immigration completely; the way this shyt is going.

people really do abuse the system. It should be about contributing in this society; not abusing it for its generous welfare system. if i bring my grandparents here, wat are they going to do?.. they are just gonna head straight to the doctor.

other than your spouse and underage child, and your work-able parent; no-one else should be allowed to sponsor anyone. if all these legal residents didn't exhaust the system this much, we wouldn't have so much trouble with DA or CIR. they used to beg people to immigrate here after WW2 b/c they needed people. now they don't want anyone b/c we don't know how to act. its I love you USA when your not inside the door, but once you head in; its give me ur goodies USA.

they will have to amend the constitution something that hasn't been done in years...ohh wait never mind the patriot act passed but really i don't think this bill will make it out of committee

Alex, you are being very naive and misinformed.

Every year, around 4,500,000 babies are born in USA. Then if you do your math, you will realize that anchor babies are only around 1/15 of the babies born in USA.

So do you realize why this is just a racist piece of legislation?

Right, with Republicans having control of 40 seats in the Senate and 178 seats in the House I bet this bill will be enacted in a week.

What makes you think that you’re any better than they are? And how convenient of you to draw the line of who gets to stay right after you get legalized. If you think that the illegal immigration problem is out of control then why don’t you put your money where your mouth is, and get the hell out?

How patriotic of you to be concerned about the unnecessary financial burden these people represent by way of the social welfare program. Except you forgot to talk about the other two components of the welfare state: gilded welfare and corporate welfare.

Gilded welfare redistributes the scant wealth of the poor to the middle and upper class. I’m talking about Social Security, federal income tax deductions for home ownership, local property tax breaks, Medicare, and home business tax deductions among others. All this typically amounts to ten times what social welfare does. In other words, the government allocates about $120 billion dollars to the poor, and more than a trillion dollars to the wealthy.

And let’s not even get started on corporate welfare. The subsidizing, rescuing and “socializing” - as the wingnuts put it - of corporations is already at the $2 trillion mark, and still counting.

If you’re not going to point fingers at EVERYONE who benefits from welfare then please save your pseudo New Federalism bull for Michelle Malkin.

This bill is uncostitutional according to the 14th ammendment it will never pass
