Is anyone else a young teen worried about going to college?

I came here at the age of 3, undocumented. My sisters are now 19 and 21. One of them graduated, the other dropped out because she said why does she need school since she can't go to college anyways! But I am now going into the 8th grade, and I am super scared that I won't get to go to college. Especially since I go to a special arts school and for the past like 6 years every single student has moved onto college or the army etc etc just higher education. Is anyone else like me, scared that she/he won't be able to go to college?

You can go to college!!! Even more, you can go to top schools. It is true that we are at a disadvantage, but such disadvantage provides the perfect elements which create a motivation like no other. A motivation that will make you work and study like very few people do. Such work will open the doors to many places. So keep the hope alive, search this forum for answers about schooling, and work as hard as you possibly can.

There are many of us in this forum that have graduated from college. Others are still in the process, and some are about to start. Make friends in this forum as there are many that you can learn from!!! Oh, and stay away from laziness, and don't allow yourself to develop a case of learned hopelessness. I know you are young, and people will bitch because I am saying this, but make sure you wrap it before you smack it! Play safe and work hard :)

Yeah ditto, trust us we know this kind of stuff from personal experience. lol Work hard, study harder, enjoy life and try and keep your happiness level above 95%. Remember everything is psychological, like Einstein said you could look at life as though everything is a miracle or you could look at life as nothing is a miracle.

I went to a math and science magnet program that ranks nationally, and where everyone gets into college, and guess what, I learned that some people with our status have gone to some of the best schools in the country.

Don't worry about, I agree with what the previous person said. I wish I had known better otherwise I would have actually tried on those standardized tests, and would have done more rather then playing it lazy as an excuse as to why I was not going to college as basically everyone else in my school was doing.

I guess I was lucky that I have never really been able to simply not do anything, or even give up when the challenge came, otherwise I would not be in a good school with a sholarship as I am now.

btw, if you feel hopeless, talk to your advisor, chances are that other people have graduated from that high school in the same situation and gone of to college, he might be able to help.

Good luck

I know what you feel. The strain the worries the emotional rollercoaster, I always blocked the situtation we are in by living life! Go to school and study hard, have tons of freinds and have fun being a kid while you can and also never let no one say no to you! It can be done and it will all work out! Dont quit school because how else will you learn? who else will educate you? Just make sure you thank god and your family for the oppurtunities you had already!
KEEP YOUR HEAD UP AND KEEP WORKING HARD.

Thanks :)) Well its just, I know I have more potential... I've been living here since I was 3 so I'm really not that much less american than the kid down the block. I wouldn't like to be sentenced to a life of flipping hamburgers at McDonalds. :(

No matter what don't give up on putting forth your best effort in school. You are young and have time to prove to anyone that you are just as qualified as any other American student to go off to college. You can do it as long as you work for it. Nothing has shown me and given me more than that. Thinking about this at your age shows how much you care. I admire that. =]

Don't worry, you're so young! Get good grades, get involved in extracurriculars, do community service and colleges will be fighting each other to have you. You're not even in high school yet, just have a good time until then.

Like everyone else has said, you can go to college, so keep working at it. You have five years to prepare, and since you're being proactive at such a young age, you'll be able to take advantage of many opportunities others won't be aware of.

If all else fails, you can attend community college and then transfer. Just know that you're the only one who can help yourself.

Good luck!
