Florida In-State tuition
 

Ok, I've read here that Florida doesn't offer in-state tuition.

I do pay in-state tuition in a local college, how did i get to be in this position you might ask. Well my junior year in high school I decided I wanted to do a dual-enrollment in the local college. This was a full-time dual-enrollment and my guidance counselor took care of everything my ssn on the school system is 000 00------.

Somehow this allowed me to be in the system without having to apply, and since I went to high school here I got in-state tuition.

So this only applies to those who are still in high school and want to do the dual enrollment program? If you don't mind me asking, what local college do you attend?

its fine, I also do not disclose too much information about the school that I attend, however, being a fellow floridian i envy you. I did not even take duel enrollment classes because that social security field in the form got me every time. Just learned that I could my last year when there was really not much to do.

Im sorry about that, like a lot of us, I didn't realize how bad my situation was until after high school. So I'm super glad I decided to do the dual enrollment. Free college courses, I didn't stay in the same field, but at least I found out that it wasn't for me.

So for all you high schoolers, try to do a dual-enrollment, maybe you'll get in-state tuition.

I could not imagine having to pay $900 for 3 credit hours for a class with no lab. Yet half the classes in my program are "hands-on" so they have a lab fee of about $180 on top of the 250 I think it is.

man... i feel like crying when I think about all the money I am losing for not taking advantage of that duel enrollment. People in my school graduated with the equivalent of an associates degree, meaning just 2 years of college at most and they get a BS not only that but most people that took DE are graduating in 3, and its a free way to find out if you want that major or not. That and internships are just priceless when you are just in high school.

so i'm guessing you're paying 3x in state tuition? I don't know if there's a way around it. I know my brother got in the same school about 6 years ago AFTER high school knowing someone through my cousin, he got in state tuition. That lady doesn't work there anymore, and I don't know exactly what she did. Try going to admissions and see if they can change your "profile" to a resident of florida or something

That's awesome. I glad that you were able to get into dual enrollment classes. I knew about dual enrollment, but my school and the college just told me it was impossible for me to take any classes.

I did find out about a year after I graduated that it was possible.
I have a younger brother who could take them, but he messed up and failed a bunch of classes his 9th/10th grades and now has to make them up.:(

When I signed up for community college in FL, they also put "Z-other" in the part where it asks for legal status. I think they also put in the zero's for the SSN part.

I hope a lot more HS students take advantage of this and find someone who is willing to help them out.

Never let someone tell you something can't be done, try to work you're way around it. Let just say I was applying for something, got a letter asking for some information needed which I didn't have, called and the lady said I didn't qualify. I called the other lady which applied for me and told her what was up. She ended up calling the first lady and made sure everything went through.

Let's just say I saved a LOT of money doing that.

unfortunately I am attending private in a different state, illinois. and the tuition was in the beggining pretty much what in-state plus room and board would have cost me in florida, so I was satisfied.

note bene, past tense, tuition has unfortunately gone up several thousand dollars while the scholarship stayed the same. i would guess 5-6k in the past year alone, over 2 semesters. ;-(
