No Financial Aid under Dream ACT?

"They would not be eligible for Pell Grants or certain other federal financial aid grants. But they could apply for student loans and federal work study programs."

Is that really true?

even though we wouldn't be eligible for financial aid, would we still be eligible for in-state tuition?

Yes, we would be eligible for in-state tuition.

And loans. Our tuition would be covered except it would be in the form of loans which we would later have to pay off.

this blows.
the only reason i would want to have been born here would be to receive financial aid for college.

That is not a reason to want to stay in this great country.

If we want to become citizens of this country, then it means that we should want to support its ideals. And we have to show that.

We have not really done anything to deserve financial aid that we nor our parents contributed to, so that cannot be a selling point for us. And looking to become a fully legal resident just because you see the country as a way to further your goals is not kosher and is very unattractive to non dreamies.

Its not like that's going to stop my education, there's always a loan anyway.

But I've been wondering if you join the military would you be eligible for the GI bill?

I don't mind getting a loan at all, its better then paying a large sum out of pocket, besides, the interest is tax deductible.

and baobabs... I think the DA fails to mention about in-state tuition because that pertains mostly to the individual state and how they define who is a resident in their state to merit such an award, at least that is what I think.

I think that as long as we can prove legal status in this country and that we graduated from a high school in the state we should be able to get in-state tuition, and then start becoming contributing members of this society as soon as we graduate.

DREAM Act bill is still great.

I guess those who do not qualify for the DREAM Act alone may qualify for some status under CIR.

Yeah if you join the military you would be able to get the GI bill, aside from that you would be able to get your citizenship way faster... so that's what am gonna do.
