Definitively, is using someone else's SSN appropriate..?

On one end I'm hearing that it's illegal and identity theft. On the other end I am hearing that no one is hurt when you use their SSN for employment. Can you guys help lay this out on the table? This is a dilemma for me.

I know you're a new member, so I'll make it short and sweet. We don't talk about the illegality of identity theft here or how you may have come upon a situation like that and if it pertains to you or not.

Please inform yourself about what we discuss here and alternatively, what we don't. Read the rules please.

a.k.a.

yes its illegal, it is identity theft and fraud, however it becomes significantly more serious if you are using it without that person's knowledge.

I am not saying that it is ok to use it as long as that person knows, in a court of law it will still be regarded as fraud at the very least and could have considerable repercussions if a path to legalization becomes available to have that in your criminal history.

(don't quote me, but I think its mentioned in one of the INA acts that is specifically referred in one part of the DA, right before the point that talks that the applicant has to have good moral character).

just to be safe.....don't do it. it will post dramatic problems in the end, and it's cases like this one that makes US citizens protest against undocumented immigrants.
