What happens if I apply for FAFSA?
First of all
-I DON'T want free money from Gov. -I've been filing my taxes ever since I've been able to work. This is year will be my 5th. -All I want is a loan with lenient terms. One that I can pay off when I am a college grad, high level, productive member of the society. With these established, lets talk about what happens if I file for FAFSA. As you all know, FAFSA is the holy grail of fin aid. Do I have SSN? -Yes, one that don't have INS/DHS authorization required stamp on it. The clean version. Am I a natural born USC? -No, I am a visa overstayer. So the question is what happens if I file for FAFSA? Will I be denied every aid? Will there be some available? What else? |

Re: What happens if I apply for FAFSA?
This the caliber of reply I expected.
DUMB. That is EXACTLY why I tried to explain myself clearly. Honestly, some of you DAP members are incredibly narrow minded. Let me tell you again I DON'T WANT NO FREE MONEY FROM GOV. All I need is a LOAN. Grant, aid=free money Loan=NOT free money, has to be payed back Do you speak English? The fact that I am not be able to receive any Fed Fin Aid, DOES NOT ANSWER MY QUESTION. |
Re: What happens if I apply for FAFSA?
Please use the search. To quickly answer your question, no you're not eligble for financial aid or federal loans, but you may be able to apply for a private loan.

Re: What happens if I apply for FAFSA?
Honestly, I would like to know if people that reply like buttholes act like that in real life.
I live in California, and after reading on the forums that you could apply for FAFSA, just to submit it with the social security number part left blank or the boxes filled with zeros, I spent some time filling it out to make sure it was perfect. I sent it in the mail, maybe like 2-4 weeks later I got the packet back with one extra sheet. It said the application could not be completed-- I needed a social security number. I have used copies of this letter, attached with my parents' W2 to show my financial need to scholarship committees. I used it one other time when I talked to the dean of the chemistry department to waive a $30 chemistry lab fee. Basically, FAFSA will not help you get any type of loan. You can ask the financial aid office, but from my experience they'll treat you like doodoo. If you get a nice one, they'll give u a paper and circle a website with private loans. However, from what I remember the loans require that you have a social. If you live in Texas I hear it's a whole different story. |
Re: What happens if I apply for FAFSA?
^^^ Don't do what luvsherry did.
I swear, this particular manages to come up constantly in one way or another. I don't know what it is. I guess the fact that it's an intimidating form and it sounds scary. I have no idea. A long time ago, I too was kinda put off by it. Since then, I've managed to get over my fear and send one in. I'm hoping to apply for massive scholarships for next year. Basic Knowledge 101: FAFSA = Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Can you fill out and send in a FAFSA? Yes. You file the paper version because the online version requires a SSN. Are you eligible for any federal aid? No. You clearly have to disqualify yourself from receiving any federal aid on the form itself. There is a checkbox you have to check. It's bad news bears if by some freak accident and/or gov't mistake you receive federal aid. DON'T TAKE IT. Not grants, not work study, nothing. What is the purpose of filing a FAFSA if we don't qualify for federal aid? The one form of aid that we are generally able to receive: scholarships. Private scholarships are immensely helpful in funding our education. Many scholarships are merit-based and most are need-based. The FAFSA is beneficial in that it shows if you have need or not. The trick is finding scholarships that don't require a SSN (if you don't have one) or legal presence. Obviously, if you've disqualified yourself from federal aid, you're not going to be getting any help. However, the opportunity still exists for scholarships and/or private loans. What happens if I file for FAFSA? Nothing. If you've disqualified yourself and given true information, you have nothing to fear. Luvsherry gave falsified information and she's still here. What does that tell you? Will I be denied every aid? Well duh. As an undocumented student, you're not eligible for any federal aid. Will there be some available? No. See above. Sonawabich, I hope that helps. If you have any more questions, try to use the search function to find them. If that doesn't work, I'll try to clarify. If you use the search function and you don't find anything and you ask me, I'll use the search function for you. If I don't find anything, I'll gladly answer. If I do find the answer, I'll shank you. Stevie, don't be a bitch. You're not cute enough to make it work. |

Even if they try to give you something, who cares, you can reject it. It's weird to hear "i don't want free money". But it's your choice. |

DUDE... CHILL OUT!!! Its okay.. we are all stressed out here.. if someone is asking the same question again.. there are many people here who do not mind answering it If it bothers you so damn much, I suggest 1) you ignore the question 2) do not use this forum. Nothing gives you the right to be so rude to people. If you do not have anything nice to say, say nothing at all!!!!:mad::mad: |

I've never heard of a loan that requires you to fill out a FAFSA form or be approved for federal fin aid. I don't really know how that would help, but since you're not a citizen (even if you do have your own valid SSN) you won't be approved. |
