Brand New. The Legalities of a Sanctuary?

Hello,

This site was recommended by an acquaintance and I am still a kind of maybe suspicious... how do I know this isn't another ACIR type of thing. You know that there isn't someone who is keeping track and we will all eventually end up somewhere we don't want to be.
What made me suspicious of this is that someone actually referred to themselves or their status as an illegal immigrant... I'll assume that they don't really know how hurtful that can be to others and I guess I just have to trust this for now.

Anyways yes I'm completely new to this seemingly awesome resource and wanted to find out what it means in legal terms to have your school declared a sanctuary, would it actually make a difference? I do know this site is all about the Dream Act so I'm not sure if it is appropriate to ask this under new but it is my newbie question.

Thank you for taking the time to read this I do apologize if actually questioning this site offended anybody but obviously i'm a bit scared and perhaps a bit paranoid :/

Welcome to DAP.

What do you mean when you said that you hope this isn't an ACIR kind of thing?

To answer your question, the reason why some may label themselves as illegal immigrant is because they aren't aware of the discourse of power which has been created by the existing bureaucracy. Yes, the term has been constructed by our allies as inappropriate, but to USCIS, it is a legal term to differentiate between those who have come in legally and those who have not. I myself use the term sometimes but I personally prefer the term "out of status".

I don't understand what you meant by schools as sanctuaries. I know that cities can be declared sanctuaries so I guess that includes their schools too. Yes, it makes a difference because it protects people from going through removal proceedings, which can be quite difficult for many families to go through.

What would be so unsafe about this place anyway? You provide no personal information.
