This is why immigration reform gets delayed over and over again
You know how we get a bunch of dates on when things are supposed to get done on immigration only to have them pushed back again and again?
Well, this is why that happens. Republicans are doing everything they can to delay progress on EVERYTHING even by using childish moves such as having a 700+ page amendment read word by word on the Senate floor. I can sympathize with Senator Bernie Sanders' frustration. |
Re: This is why immigration reform gets delayed over and over again
Yes, they have done this for decades. Angeleno, I think you would love "Mr.Smith goes to Wahington"
A film made in 1939 about a man that ran an organization like modern day boy' s scout. Some very vindictive law makers cheated an election and made him a Senator. Well he went to Washinton with hopes of changing the world and helping his state. He learned just how evil Washington can be not to long after arriving. The senior Senators were just using him. The lobbiest tried to by his vote but he had other plans. Mr. Smith fought for his bill on the Senate floor very hard. He talked on the floor for hours at a time. The people of his state sent thousands of letters to congress urging them to let Mr. Smith win one for the boys. The letters were hidden, the media was bought by the lobbiest, the only source of letting his state know what was going on wad the paper ran by the little boys. In the end Mr.Smith won with the help for activism. I think you will love it because we need a Mr.Smith of our own to fight on that floor. The film is on YouTube as a whole. I know for a fact it's shown in American Government classes. Anyone who enjoys the bull$?!t of politics will love this film. Here is a portion of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GD-lFCsYOPs |
Re: This is why immigration reform gets delayed over and over again
Well, this is politic.
On one hand, if the motive is positive, I would not mind them read from word to word since they are responsible for the actions. However, since their motive is only about politic game, I would smash them with my hammer and kick them out of the Congress hall. |
Re: This is why immigration reform gets delayed over and over again
You both fail to realize that is is something completely new.
Yes, politics has always been this way. But in times of great need, legislators have found a way to come together and work towards a solution. What we are witnessing today is unprecedented. Republicans have literally come up with a delay manual which details how they can obstruct progress at every turn (read it, it's quite scary). This is serious shit coming from one of the only three guys considered "moderate" on the Republican side. With so many problems today, and a nation in peril, the ENTIRE Republican party has decided to play games and let people die only to make the first black president look bad. |
Re: This is why immigration reform gets delayed over and over again
It sucks that some voters are so scared of terrorism and other things that the same people who brought the USA to war are now speaking freely like they deserve a voice because people fear that if they dont listen to them the USA can be in more trouble. It would be a pity for anyone to actually believe a single word that comes out of these extremist whom raise their right hand speaking of love towards US while using the left hand to sign and oppose progress.
I find it ridiculous to say that undocumented people are bad for US, if people who were fired from GM and others had protection, they could be receiving help from GM, money that anyways went to bonuses and people who already have money and could live without it. Instead this people who got fired have no help training for new jobs, no help from GM and they are more likely to listen to some dude saying "Undocumented workers are the problem!, if they weren't here we could cut unemployment by half" I challenge them to deport every single one of us and stare at the US economy while it furthermore drops into abyss. This people don't want to admit that undocumented workers hold companies that employ people. They just care to blame someone else for the problems they themselves caused by pushing for a war that has brought us economic problems.. It sucks that innocent people like us pay the price, but I am thankful that there is still smart people fighting for us, people who really love the USA. Bless. |
Re: This is why immigration reform gets delayed over and over again
I've read the delay manual a few weeks ago actually. I follow politics religiously, this is nothing new to me. Thanks for spreading the message to those that were uninformed.

You must understand the health health care reform is an especially sensitive issue (in politics perhaps much more sensitive issue than immigration) because it affects almost all Americans. It has a much huger political and economic stake for both Democrats and Republicans than immigration. There's a reason why the health care reform has been discussed for decades but failed every time. It involves too many interest groups unlike most issues.
That's why we've been seeing hyperpartisanship for the last few months and, especially, the past few days. Also, while most Republicans are conservatives, Democrats are liberals, moderates, and conservatives. If all the Democrats in the Congress were liberals, then we would have already passed the health care reform bill and the immigration reform bill. |
