This article is also a mere speculation.

Just know that we need to press the Senate Democratic leadership more.
So, don't be pessimistic or optimistic.

We'll not know what will happen probably until late February. But, to maximize our chance, Senator Schumer should introduce his bill as soon as possible. So, keep contacting (e-mailing, mailing, faxing, calling, etc.) the key Senators (Senator Reid, Senator Durbin, and Senator Schumer).

I don't trust this source. I do believe immigration reform will happen in early 2010 and no later than 2011.

I don't like how this guy "cites" words instead of sentences. But what he is basically saying is nothing we haven't already speculated. The government is known to bullshit its way around the bush for years before it takes any action, if any at all.

I for one believe, and hope they will start the "big debate" early 2010.. bills don't just go into congress and then are voted on the next day. Even if the debate starts on January 1st the law itself wont be law until near the end of the year.

There are so many rumors. One of the reasons is the fear of election year. I think we expect Schumber submits his proposal by Feb 2010 to the Senate. I do expect some debates. Remember, this election year is not just party vs party election. There is an internal war among candidates within the same parties. Those Democratic, if they want to get support from pro-immigration reformers, especially from the Latino community, they better do the expectations. Otherwise, other potential democratic candidates in their districts will come out and take their seat over.

The goal is to get the HCR to Obama before Jan 20th which I think can happen.

Unfortunately, it can't happen. There simply isn't enough time for that to happen. As you know, the Congress is not in session for many days every year.
The House will return to session on January 12th, but the Senate will return to session on January 19th. Even though the Democratic leaders are planning to have meetings during their break (beginning next week), they still need some time after their official session dates. Moreover, an estimate for the cost of the final health care reform bill from the Congressional Budget Office is expected to take about 10 days or more. So, even if the Senate leaders go back to the Congress before their official session date begins, it's impossible for them to send the final bill to President Obama by January 20th.

The Senate is expected to work on a jobs bill and pass it in order for President Obama to use it during his State of Union speech.

Even if I had been wrong , you should have said, "This is not correct." It sounds like I intentionally lied. And, I wasn't lying.

The date you mentioned is the date for a pro forma session. A pro forma session is different from an official session in which the Senators do their legislative business.

Even if the Senate leaders and House leaders meet before their official session dates and make an agreement, an estimate for the cost of the final bill from the Congressional Budget Office will require at least 10 days or more as I metioned above. It's impossible for the Congress to send the final bill to President Obama by January 20th. They might be able to send it to him by late January, but January 20th is not the date.

Frankly, I do not expect any action for CIR till after 2010 mid-term elections. However I remain hopeful that the DREAM Act might still have a chance.
