Worst/Dirty Jobs
I wanted to know what kind of jobs people here have had. Jobs that were really bad and you hated going to work everyday. Or jobs that involved getting really dirty. I know I've had some bad jobs like Dishwasher, busboy, getting paid lower than minimum wage. So Im just curious and want to know the worst jobs out thier that us, undocumented people have had or still have.

Re: Worst/Dirty Jobs
Having to listen to the damn manager get on your F#($( balls and does it on purpose cause she knows the situation with us, she know its the only place we can work at and if we leave or do something wrong we have no more job = no more money oh and getting paid in cash

Re: Worst/Dirty Jobs
Fortunately for me I havent had any dirty or low jobs...I have only worked retail so far and I guess with that work history nobody in the lower industry wants to hire me. I used to clean houses with my mom that's probably the worst ive had to do. Unfortunately my experiences have been that because I work retail i usually get stuck working only with white people and at one place I had to stand by and hear how they talked badly about immigrants and then when i tried to defend us they said "oh but we're not saying anything about you, youre legal" yeah sure if only they knew...that's probably the worst part about my jobs...hearing comments like those or being worried that at any momment they are going to "check" my documents.

Re: Worst/Dirty Jobs
I worked same bad jobs over the years, but the job that I hated the most was just last year (with a college education) I was a moving man. I had to show up at 7 am outside in the cold/ice to load the moving truck up with supplies etc. The day usually lasted a cool 12 hours, but honestly, that 12 hours was brutal. I thought I knew hard work from my country, but this was different. I mean seriously, no man can survive here for 10 years straight. It's only undocumented workers and the bosses are making big bucks (they were ripping customers off with shady online contracts, talking about thousands of dollars for small jobs). No health insurance, no benefits, 10/hour. I worked 3 months here when times got tough. (they are much better now).

Re: Worst/Dirty Jobs
I don't have a very long working list... My first "job" was babysitting - cuz that's what most undocumented women seem to do here anyways - and got paid 6 dollars an hour to go to this chiropractor's office to care for one baby and one boy of about four I think. I was a sophomore in high school so I had absolutely no idea what I was doing, but the kids seemed to love me anyway! It was I who couldn't stand it. Well, that wasn't so bad. After I had to move and lose that job, I didn't get to work (at least for money) again til a half year after graduation, and that's how I became a waitress. It was a good restaurant, and it got super busy sometimes, but instead of having me on the floor my boss put me behind the counter to serve the food to the plates, and I got paid minimum wage and no tips. It sucked a little cuz my higher ups knew I needed the job - undocumented and living completely by my own at the time - so when they wanted to harass me and threaten me I couldn't do anything back. I started to get tired of the job when I started noticing there wasn't a single day when I wasn't screamed at. My supervisor was a spanish woman with an incredibly little amount of knowledge in the english language so I had to communicate with my not so good spanish, and she was... well... hard to deal with. She got to hit me a few times too. Punched me in the face and kicked my leg. I fumed, but I stayed quiet... I needed the job. -_- I earned a little over 650 a month, too, barely enough to get by.
By November of last year I was out, moved to live with my sister, and now I'm on my third job, still waitressing, at a Brazilian restaurant. I only work weekends, 2.50 an hour except Saturdays, on Sats we only get to take home what we make from tips. Sometimes it's slow, but the restaurant gets stupidly busy at night and usually I get the luck to leave there with over a hundred dollars in my pocket. My boss is Brazilian as well so she's got no prejudice over the fact I'm undocumented, so no harassing or anything of the sort. I just seem to not deal very well with the other employees... they're all Brazilian, which made me realize even further just how much of my culture I've lost. I don't have anything in common with them at all. So I usually stay quiet the whole night and just work, while at my last job I made friends with the other american/hispanic workers in a heartbeat. K, I'm done with my rant now. I should really start a blog or something... heh. |

Re: Worst/Dirty Jobs
Let's see this is my list, I worked at a resturant as a busser in high school. Wasn't to bad I guess. Then went to dominos making pizza lol free food ha ha. After that I worked at best buy, Macys, office max, aberceombie and fitch, and started working construction making decent money. Was going to get promoted till the economy went bad and lost my job!
But now I'm in the mortgage bussiness as a loan officer qualifying first time homeowners and on the side knocking door to door selling security alarms Not bad for not having papers lol |
